This fits pretty well with advice from advisors on my 401k and IRAs, though I'm in a more conservative focus than you should be, given differences in our ages. Still a less predictable environment in the markets than even normally exists.
Doing your research if not getting professional guidance is more important now as a result.

@BrandNewMan thank you
BiasForAction · M
I only do mutual funds that are indexed to things and avoid industry specific stock purchases. I do however have stock in a scompany I used to work for and the dividend is rather nice year after year.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@BiasForAction interesting thank you
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I'd stay with blue chips, just to be safe. Or maybe a good mutual fund?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@WowwGirl Then I'd say do a LOT of reading and thinking before making decisions.
WowwGirl · 36-40, F
@ChipmunkErnie that's not me sadly. But I'll try

Or try a like we did in school.
We watched the newspaper stock listings and watched it and kept track of it for 6 weeks

Financials - visa, mc and amex. Financials, and insurance companies are swimming with cash. This float is invested from minute one while their claim payments come in (and out) in dribs and drabs

@WowwGirl VOO Is an index fund based on the S&P 500. If you go with VOO, you're essentially putting money into all the big companies in the US. If the big companies do well -- which they always do, in the long run -- you'll get good returns. People have their little niche investment strategies, but the vast preponderance of evidence that we have shows that even most experts can't beat the market so you may as well not bother.

@WowwGirl IDK what that guy's talking about. VOO isn't tech only. You can read about it here:
