Help!
I need advice about hubcaps. I live in a neighborhood where people often steal hubcaps off the wheels of cars. I am considering putting zip ties on the hubcaps of my car so the thieves will avoid my car and go to easier targets. My car is pretty dumpy and the hubcaps sometimes fall off anyways, but I had the hubcaps stolen twice too. Is putting zip ties to connect the hubcaps to the wheel a good idea? All info would be appreciated.

It’s tricky bc on one hand it could help, but on the other hand it might make the thief try harder, or it’ll make ‘em mad and they’ll smash your window out of spite… you could do it and leave one of those small “pet watcher cameras” hidden somewhere, bc then either way you can catch their face and bring it to the police.
@MissNoahLenFoxx The police are just as nasty as the thieves where I am from. Even if I was able to catch the hubcap thief, the police officer would simply say "it's a trivial matter", get angry that I had called, and may even try to arrest me for taking up their time. I still appreciate your timely reply and consideration. Best Regards!

@SalamanderWolfWoman They cant arrest you if you havnt done anything wrong. You can sue them if they do. You should go to their superior.

@MissNoahLenFoxx it's just the hassle of dealing with cops. They'll kill ya and have a good chance of beating the charge along with beating a traffic offense citizens. Stay out of Memphis! Nashville ain't much better cop wise. I know, my folks live in Kentucky and I am in Texas you have to pass through Tennessee or drive to St Louis

Not a good idea: will make it much more difficult to change the tire when you get a flat.

2 better options;
---remove the hubcaps / wheel covers
---replace steel wheels (which have hubcaps / wheel covers) with alloy wheels (which don't require hubcaps / wheel covers)
@thisguy20All your advice was greatly appreciated. I feel that you are completely correct. No zip ties. Sadly some of my neighbors have already put zip ties on their hubcaps because they didn't have access to your most excellent wisdom!

I have a feeling that they have a big knife too. Maybe you can invest in a couple of cans of black lacquer spray paint costs about the same as all other quality spray paint like Rust-Oleum .Home Depot will have it Lowes etc. Won't fall off stays pretty shiny. Silver lasts a while too. Or chrome is really shiny. Buy some cheap masking tape so your tire doesn't look redneck with intermittent over spray.
Those type of hubcaps after removing them once it twice they tend to fall off easier.. like every pot hole or hard sharp turn. You might be a redneck of you paint a coil or spiral on your wheel for that twilight zone look.
If a junk yard is near by hub caps there. If you get unmatched put 2 on one side that match and same on the other. That's about every hillbilly trick I know. Mr low rent here at your service.
@kentex35 Excellent advice! Thanks a million! FOR REALZ!

@Ontheroad Good Point! I decided that I shall always park my car in areas where there is proper security supervision. Thank you for your excellent comment!
