Is space exploration and possibly colonization of other planets the future of humanity?

Sharon · F
There could be a problem just getting to other planets. The next nearest star is 4 years away at the speed of light and we can't even get anywhere near that speed yet.

@Northwest GR is a fascinating subject, and a lot easier to understand that quantum theory. ;)
Northwest · M
@Sharon SR (Gamma factor) and GR will be harmonized with Quantum Mechanics, sooner or later, of that I am certain :-) I still think that Celestial Mechanics, at the Macro level, are as complicated as quantum mechanics.

Or they'll be replaced by a new, all encompassing theory. That's the beauty of science, it's not held back by outdated dogma.

Absolutely. I don't think it will be fast, as we are still taking our first baby steps.

I think soon we will be out and about the stars. 100 years or so to permanently colonization of outer space.

I think the next big advance will be detection and manipulation of gravity.
@AceWarbringer

I hope so!
Northwest · M
Yes, it is, and in stages.

Over the next 200 years, we will colonize Mars. Think teraforming.

If we're smart enough, to figure out how to go beyond, then we would have evolved to the point, where the population will start decreasing in numbers, reducing the need to colonize, out of necessity, and more out of curiosity.

We have a better chance of colonizing the oceans and seas. We also have Antarctica.
SW-User
@Pikachu We will colonize space eventually, but I think we should focus on our resources here. I mean, we haven't even figured out how to turn salt water into h2o yet. The ocean has plenty of water and the sun provides an abundance of solar energy. We could build man-made islands and even underwater civilizations easily with the abundance of resources we have on earth.
@SW-User

True. Well hopefully we'll get to that before it's too late.
I think ultimately our future will have to be off planet, but i agree that we're going to have to sort things out down here first.
Northwest · M
@SW-User We don't need to desalinize water, in the Western world, but that's a common practice in several countries: Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, etc.

But yes, our oceans have not been fully explored, but our goal should be to decelerate, when it comes to population growth.
Only if there's a serious leadership change.
@RemovedUsername1042818

Well i think that's probably true. Or maybe it wold be more true to say that it would require a serious change in priorities.
Could it be Solar Warden?

Not anytime in the near future

Hopefully before we or some natural disaster destroys us here.
