I read a lot of books about space, and there are certain principles and theories that, well quite frankly scare the shit out of me. Here are a few

1.Neutron Stars - Dead stars that are so dense and that a tea spoon of their matter is heavier than Mount Everest. Their magnetic fields can tare atoms apart.

2. The Dark Forest Theory - the theory that our galaxy is absolutely teaming with alien civilisations. But just like in a dark forest everyone is in hiding because nobody wants to be “eaten first”. Accept us humans of course who are so certain of ourselves and our superiority that we are sending out calling cards…

3. Rogue planets - Planets that through one event or another have left the orbit of a star, and are racing through the dark like a slingshot, traveling so fast they can’t be detected until they’ve possibly already ploughed straight through you.

4. Super massive objects and time - if you get too close to one time slows down for you, but carries on as normal for the rest of the universe. Thus leaving you frozen in time.

And for those of you who don’t like black holes, they are being discovered all the time, they’re unimaginably huge, and they are traveling at speeds that will make you want to pour yourself a stiff drink and go think think about something else for a while. I recommend a strong glass of rum and the memory of all the pairs of tits you’ve ever tried to fit in your mouth, over the course of your life.

Oh and solar flares have the power to knock out all the power grids on earth. It happened once before in the early 19th century but luckily there wasn't much and only a few rich people were inconvenienced. And if the earth was 9 days further along its orbit then it was in 2012. We could have all been blacked out... Scary thought.

Every time I read my monthly issue of Scientific American, my mind is totally blown by the latest discovery in space. I worked in the space industry for over 30 years, but I can't get my brain around the scope any mysteries of the universe.
