Indeed we did
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Oh! And we had a kid in class that was infatuated with Melissa Sue Anderson from Little House on the Prairie. He could whistle and beep the dialup tone on the computer and somehow got her phone number and called her. The school phone bill was huge! He got caught. I think there might have been a restraining order too. Eventually he became head of IT for the Target Corporation.

i was homeschooled 😬
nobodyishome · 31-35, F
@Lostpoet Also, shot scared of flying again
GoFish ·
@Lostpoet sometimes lol they get more focused schooling is why lol
GoFish ·
@nobodyishome yeah i wanted to go to school cause my neighbor kids said it was fun but our dad wouldn't let us lol
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
Of course, I almost failed IT classes in my first year. 😐
craig7 · 70-79, M
I was at high school from 1960 to 1964 - so the answer is no!
Poppies · 61-69, F
We had one thing they called a terminal. It was a big deal. It was a brand new thing, more to be demonstrated than used.
DavidBianchet2 · 56-60, M
@Poppies yeah, that's when the leaders understood how important technology is. Now they're trying to tell us science is bad, lol.
DDonde · 36-40, M
Yep! I took Computer Science as a course in high school. We didn't have laptops that we took home like some kids do these days though.
DavidBianchet2 · 56-60, M
@DDonde or the phones. Imagine if you went back to those days and tried to explain how much power a mobile phone has.
DrWatson · 70-79, M
We didn't even have calculators. We used slide rules.

People who worked in the administrative offices had those big old-fashioned adding machines.
bowman81 · M
PC's weren't invented yet, we weren't even allowed calculators. Computers were mainframes that took up entire buildings and operated with punch cards back in the middle ages when I went to school.
DragonFruit · 70-79, M
No, we didn't have computers in school until college (but I'm in my 70s).
CactusJackManson · 51-55, M
Yes, pre-internet computers where we wrote our own programs
DavidBianchet2 · 56-60, M
@CactusJackManson Yes. I was in high school just as the phase started. My high school was the first in the area to have computer rooms and computer related classes.
Computers, laptops and tablets
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Personal computers were only just starting to come onto the market when I was in high school. They may have had computers or a link to a mainframe, but over at the vo-tech school my school went to, but it was in another town.
Yes, quite a few of em but some privileged kids were treating those as their personal property.

I was homeschooled for the most part.
Convivial · 26-30, F
Actually started with slide rules...
Ontheroad · M
We just got electric typewrites in my senior year, so no, no compters.
DavidBianchet2 · 56-60, M
@Ontheroad my older brother had one.
Ontheroad · M
@DavidBianchet2 I went to high school in the 60s... computers weren't yet even on the horizon for other than big tech and the government, scientists, etc.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
No. Just typewriters. And drunken teachers.
DavidBianchet2 · 56-60, M
@hunkalove I had a gym teacher that snuck alcohol by putting it in a ketchup bottle.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@DavidBianchet2 We used to joke about the teacher's lounge having a bar. It seemed like most of our teachers in my small hometown finished near the bottom of their class at the worthless teacher's college where I ended up graduating. They were lucky to have a job.
DavidBianchet2 · 56-60, M
@hunkalove for some reason, my area was always rated highly in the school system. It was rare for a hick town.
A few ancient clunky beige behemoths, that made a lot of noise and were very slow. Seldom used.
I think our calculators had more computational power.
eyeno · M
Just my tablet...

Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Yes. They were just keyboards and a paper printer. It was connected with dialup to a remote CDC computer.
Lostpoet · M
Yes and electricity 😌 don't mean to brag
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Lostpoet We finally got air conditioning when I was in the 6th grade. 🙂
Musicman · 61-69, M
Computers were just coming out when I graduated highschool. We had them, but they were not up and running and they didn't have a teacher to teach them yet. The next year they started running classes.
None that we could personally use (1972-1976).
