My niece (not the one who lives with me) was attacked by a girl in school! What are public schools coming to. The principal says...

well that girl has 'special needs' ... yeah well... if she has such special needs that she can't control herself and hurts other kids then SHE SHOULDN'T BE IN THE GENERAL POPULATION. They should have special schools for kids who are like this...

My kid was randomly punched in the face and the kid didn’t get in trouble b/c of his special needs. I reminded my son if he so much as touched it lightly to hit him as hard as he could and he did when the kid started hitting him repeatedly, but he got in trouble for defending himself the second time the kid hit him and the kid didn’t who started it yet again for the same reason he did before. I was livid and called a meeting w/the school district.

If they are a danger to other children, they shouldn’t be near them without an adult supervising them.

Special needs or not
The kid (or anybody) defending themselves should NOT get into trouble
Zero tolerance doesn't work
Tattling doesn't work

@pdockal Exactly. No child should be abused by another for any reason.

@MellyMel22 exactly true. it's completely outrageous - either the kid gets consequences (suspension) or they aren't fit to be in the general population. Same with some adults. We need to bring back special schools (and proper psych wards while we're at it.

I'll try to keep this short

I had a nephew ... 1st grade ... living with me because of horrible situation with his parents
He was being bullied on the bus ... by 2nd grader ... who was also left back
I told him to use any words he chooses without fear of punishment
I told him if he's touched to take the kid down by any means necessary & i would back him
I told him never get physical first

School called because he was defending himself
I told the school that i taught him that & should i come to school to explain defending oneself
They declined the lesson
Problem solved
No more getting bullied
My nephew did good after that
His self confidence rose

@pdockal that's good, but some kids are too dangerous to be in the general population.

I agree. I'm sorry to hear about your niece. You should write a letter to the school superintendent, or publish an article in the opinion section. Voice of complaint hoping you get heard. Some special needs students beat up on their teachers too.

Funding gets cut, teachers are paid nothing and treated terribly, gov't keeps interfering.

It's hard for the kids, they're being let down and it doesn't matter who is in charge or what party they are.
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@CountScrofula yeah but why in our organization do we allow special needs kids like this to interact with regular kids

It's a constant problem. They let those kids do whatever they want.. and I do mean whatever. Girls are frequently getting sexually assaulted because of these students and no one can do anything about it. It's garbage.

Have your kid take boxing, kickboxing or judo.

@TradEmily

Anybody should be able to defend themselves
If EVERYBODY is taught not to get physical first
TradEmily · 26-30, F
@pdockal well of course they were told not to get physical first, but some 'special needs' kids lose control very easily - and apparently that's fine.

@TradEmily

I was making a general statement because places have a zero tolerance where both parties get in troubling regardless who got physical first
