How was your school lunch like?

In Elementary and Middle School we had two “main options” that changed daily. We would always have the choice of Ham & Cheese ( all came with a fruit and juice/milk), PB&J, or Chef Salad. In High School it was more like a buffet situation but I had already developed an ED by then and never got a school lunch so I have no idea tbh.

We had a canteen with different stalls you could buy from, all subsidised rates, so you could get a grilled chicken drumstick for $0.50, a 500 ml drink bottle would cost $0.80 and a plate of chicken rice would cost maybe $1.00 to a $1.50

I went to boarding school and most of our meals were pretty good. We ate lunch with the day girls. There was usually a choice of a pasta or rice dish, or sandwiches/salad.

We would be lined up across the yard heading towards the dreaded canteen. Our stomaches empty, we were constantly mocked by our overlord teachers, who would be watching the queue, whilst stuffing their faces with our food.

The constant cracking sound of the whip from the back of the lunch line kept us in our place. As we slowly shuffled to the front, arriving at the double doors of the canteen, a lunch lady would remove our shackles and allow us to enter.

Once inside, it was often a fight; a fight that left many kids injured or worse. The victors would get to eat that day. Only the strong can survive a Tory school. Cold beans on toast, and a carton of juice; before shackled again and a limp back to the classroom.

In Florida I had different meals for elementary school every day but Friday was pizza day

For Middle School and High School I had the same food options every day (Pizza, Cheeseburger, Chicken Sandwich) but for some reason the meals in middle school tasted a lot better lol

In my home country Bosnia, there is no school cafeteria because the country is very poor, so you either have to bring food with you or walk across the street and buy food at the bakery. However, the lunch break is also only 15 minutes long smh, so most of the time if I went to the bakery I wouldn't even have time to finish my food before the teacher came back into the classroom

I remember having this thing they called a hoagie in elementary school. It looked like a long hamburger patty. I loved it and the pizza. Funny thing though.. I can’t remember anything else.
