I didn't go. Everyone harassed me about it, but I'm glad I refused. I hate loud music, dancing, and conversation, and I was way too dysfunctional to consider accompanying a special someone (or even a regular someone).
@BlueVeins shit 😂 I was hoping for a "kinda" at least lol. But hey man we're all a lil fucked up it's alright. I'm a good example of that... Or a bad one. Who knows
@SW-User well I'm glad you at least graduated 🙏 you overcame. & Prom is pretty overrated imo. I wish I would've graduated. I never took school seriously

@ChiefJustWalks it’s never to late, night school works. ☺️
@Bexsy middle school dances were fun for me, that's when everything was small & we all got along. Having dance battles & shit 😂 once I made it rain $40 to impress a crush... It worked 😎
@QueenOfTheNerds yeah I'm pretty sure people only do it for the memories, so they can look back & picture high school as this magical movie experience.
I was perfectly happy partying in the hood while all my peers were at their proms 😂
I was banned from mine....something to do with ditching to go surfing too much and a small, teeny-tiny accident that combined my truck and the JR ROTC building, but in my defense, the steering column did snap and I couldn't stop in time.
That being said, I went to my gf's. She was at another school so we did hers and it was fantastic. Had a great dinner with friends at a fantastic restaurant, then drove to the venue for the dance. Was there for hours having a great time, it was '81 and there were so many great songs to dance to, then went to her gf's house for an after party where the parents were gone for the weekend. She slept in my arms for the first time that night and that was it. Woke up with her looking at me with a smile.
@MrPerditus1 lmao my school banned me as a whole by the time I got to senior year 😂 I can relate.. but sorry for your misfortune with the steering column. That's rough but a good story.
Awesome that you got great memories out of it though 🤙 kinda makes me miss those high school days too haha

Ehh it was alright and all but not as big or special as everyone makes it out to be. I just went because my family wanted me to 😬
Never went to a high school formal, and I've never been to any high school re-unions. I did yr 12 (last year of Australian high school) in 1986. Partly because I don't have any romantic/intimate partner and partly because I hated being social even back then. I never dated until my mid-20's so there's no way I could have gone to the yr12 formal do as I would just have engaged 'fight or flight' mode and escaped via any means possible..
@ChiefJustWalks No offence to people who feel like doing formals, reunions, etc. but it's just not my scene. I would rather die than be surrounded by all the 'perfect couples' that re-unions are all about.
@ChiefJustWalks Any sort of formal event is an opportunity for women to show off and ooze feminine appeal (which scares me lots - part of the reason I find sexual attraction really frightening) and the men are just 'handbags' basically. Just like at a wedding. ;-)
I never went. The few kids I actually liked weren't going, so I really didn't want to. Plus, I didn't have a girlfriend. So just no incentive to go whatsoever.
@ChiefJustWalks there were probably about eight people at that school that I liked. One was going, but with a girl I couldn't stand. I just had no desire to spend a few extra hours with the rest of them, lol.
@ChiefJustWalks it sure is. A lot of stuff is overrated. My philosophy has always been that if something doesn't appeal to me, I'm better off just saying no. I'm not much fun when I'm somewhere I don't particularly want to be.
Me neither Just kinda drifted apart from my friends by that point due to my social anxiety and it just felt like too much for me and pointless at the time I do regret it tho
I didn’t go, and told all of my friends I wasn’t going, much to their chagrin. A friend asked me to go with her and I said no. Maybe that was a mistake.
@ChiefJustWalks I didn’t have a lot of time for fucking around. I had school, modeling, and ranch work… and any little bit of guitar playing I could squeeze in. I never really went to dances, sports stuff, parties… or even had time to just hang out. My Dad was a cattle rancher and there was a shit load of work to do. While all the other kids were just hanging out, I was working like a man.
@xzLucaszx me either 😂 I ditched often. I also got suspended & expelled every year. The only HS year I finished was freshman. So I basically only had a few years of high school 😅
@xzLucaszx sadly I didn't even drop out til my senior year 😬 I was 18 by then so I didn't need my parents to sign anything when I left. I don't recommend dropping out that late though. I only did it because regular schools wouldn't accept me anymore & the ones that did wouldn't accept half of my credits. I was in all honors my first few years so they were trying to make me retake all those classes which was basically my whole first two years of math, English, & science. I just gave up
@ChiefJustWalks I don't mind. it's in one of my posts. his name was Jeremiah. he and our sister died after birth. I'm a surviving triplet. I do have an older sister still from a different father.
@Jeremi damn man well I'm glad you made it at least 🙏 that would be one of those things where I question why I made it but all you can do is make it worth it

I went, but I went stag. I was too chicken to go with another guy. 😕
I went to my junior prom. But by senior year I was going out with an Italian boy and the dean of students asked us not to attend prom together (“it would make the parents uncomfortable”). Ironic, because neither of our parents had a problem with it. So we didn’t go, but several friends also boycotted the prom and threw a house party that we attended instead.
@bijouxbroussard aw.. that's pretty messed up how normal that kind of treatment was back then. But I'm glad you had people standing behind you guys & you still got a good night out of it 🙏 Prom is meh anyway.. the real fun comes outside of campus if you ask me
Edit:I don't know how my autocorrect snuck "t shirt" in there 😂

I wasn’t allowed to all because my outfit wasn’t an prom dress. Everyone got invited expect for me
@Dino11 When I went to high school there was just one 'formal' - at the end of yr 12. I didn't go. Too scared/frightened/embarassed and back then I didn't have any interest or understanding of dating/sex/women/romance etc and wouldn't have known how to ask a woman out for a date, or how to kiss one, or flirt, etc.
@HannibalMontanimal the people I mostly hung out with were somewhere else.. so that's where I was too 😂 but I do wonder what prom would've looked like at mine lol you got some fun out of it so who knows 🤷
@ChiefJustWalks Before I went like I thought it was gonna be slow dancing and like nothing really crazy but when I got there the dj was there playing loud ass rap music and all the girls acting crazy shaking they asses and shit like completely the opposite of what I expected. I was like 15 years old lol so yeah it's a good memory
@HannibalMontanimal man it was like that at all of high school anyway 😂 I remember going to my first house party when I was a freshman. All the girls I had crushes on growing up were giving me lap dances & shit I was so shocked 🤣 like wait.. this stuff happens fr? Out here singing "A Whole New World" from Little Mermaid
