Did you have to "Do Lines" as punishment at school?(both)
Never heard of it in Tasmania in the 70's Punishment? I really do not remember any punishment but the cane - or cuts as they were call. I usually received 6 "cuts" on each hand for not doing my homework
Had one junior high teacher who would do something different. If she caught anyone, usually boys, doing little monkey shines she would make them continue to do it till class was over. One boy thought it’d be funny to wad up a piece of paper and toss it into her trash can by her desk while she had her back turned to the chalkboard & talking. She turned around and caught him and said it was so funny she thought he should continue to do the same thing till class was over. So he wadded up notebook paper and tossed it for the next 45 minutes. She was young & strict & had eyes in the back of her head.
@cherokeepatti I saw the teacher's trick for seeing the students behind them while they are writing on the chalkboard. They place a picture above the chalkboard covered by glass and angled so they can see the reflection of the students behind them as they write on the chalkboard. The movie doubt showed that trick.
@cherokeepatti @cherokeepatti sure there was not a reflective surface?? how else did she know what you were doing/ ? if she caught a boy jacking off did the boy then have to keep jacking for the rest of the class edging for that long a time??
@GusmanI don't remember how long it took. I do remember writing "I..." for maybe ten lines, followed by the second word, etc. It was something like "i will not talk in class" or "school."
@DeluxedEdition If a child was talking in class instead of listening then punishment would be set by "doing lines" They would have to write "I must not talk in class when the teacher is talking" 100 times.
@DeluxedEdition The cane was a long thin piece of bamboo. The hand was struck with force by the teacher. Imagine 6 of them on each hand. 6 on each hand was the maximum allowed. Sadistic teachers always meted out the maximum Blood was never drawn
