Now people are more open about it. It was happening before.
Spacesbetweenus · 31-35, F
@bijouxbroussard but why ?No value of commitments ?
bijouxbroussard · F
@Spacesbetweenus Same reasons in the past as now; boredom, curiosity. And back then they assumed they weren’t going to get caught. Now they do.
But also even now, there are still people who prefer (and practice) monogamy. They just live their lives, without fanfare.

I think it's always been that way to some degree. Is it now worse than historically? Unlikely just maybe more open in society.
If you look at data for misattributed paternity many years ago I remember claims that 20-30% of children might be being raised by their non-biological father in ignorance. However as widespread DNA testing has become possible the actual facts looking at DNA lineage is that it's way way lower than that. The higher figures came initially from the trailblazers in paternity testing who were men with suspicions anyway.
Interestingly the data shows that if anything the figure has been dropping from the 1930s until now starting around 3% and falling to under 1%. Now some of that will be due to wide spread contraception, maybe because there is more societal acceptance of divorce etc.

The majority of people don’t.
It’s just those who shout the loudest.

@AdmiralPrune Explain

@Spacesbetweenus So off the internet in a joint friend group and extended family that is around 300 people, nobody is having multiple affairs or friends with benefits. Everyone is just raising their kids and working hard.
Then you go online and it’s all here.
Next time a “please can you explain your view” wouldn’t hurt. Complete sentences and manners go a long way.

It’s because women smell nice

Personally, I see nothing wrong with it. So many marriages fail - it’s certainly not for everyone. If you would rather stay single and have multiple partners, why not ?
Frostcloud · F
@Softandsweet2 being single with multiple partners who know they're non exclusive isn't the same as cheating
Rpfun78 · 61-69, M
@Softandsweet2 I agree completely. When I turned 30, I realize I probably wouldn’t get married and I probably have multiple affairs and multiple girlfriends six months later I met someone I thought I could marry her and be happy so I pulled the plug. I’ve been happily married for 40 years and no affairs so I have met a few women have attempted me. I could’ve gone either way.

I'd say "a world where interpersonal loyalty, even to the level of marriage, is seen as a sad joke", but we're pretty much already there. So I'll add "a world where traditional family and community structures are abandoned- not expanded, but totally left behind- to be replaced with loyalty to the state and the corporation".

Real Fwbs are not troublesome. Safer in being uncommitted to each other.
Everything else is fucked, so the people might as well be too.
@NudasPriest definitely agree

Based on what/whos data ?????
Spacesbetweenus · 31-35, F
guys its a super serious question.🙋♀
aboveaverageaveragejoe · 56-60, M
@Spacesbetweenus it's too expensive to divorce or to buy 2 separate houses. It's a reasonable alternative.

Heading nowhere, but into more shallow self gratification with no value or depth.
