I got invited to play dungeons and dragons last night.

Idk if I will, but he did promise free pizza.
Is this the birth to my geek phase?

Hold up, let me ask my paladin.

(I don't even know what that is, is this cultural appropriation?)

Every RPG nerd on SW gonna descend on this post like a pack of hungry vultures trying to overexplain details of the game.

Have fun, tabletop rpgs are a hoot. I uh, may be a game master who has been consistently running or playing ttrpgs since the early 90s. Just started a new Call of Cthulhu campaign!

@HijabaDabbaDoo D&D, although it is considered easier to learn than a lot of games like it, still takes a bit to pick up. Beginner friendly means that it'll go at a comfortable pace and you won't be required to act like you know what you're doing.

Each time you sit down to game you're completing a part of a story. Each session of play lasts 2-4 hours usually. The stories can be very short and just take one session.

A campaign will take multiple sessions and last several months to a year to indefinitely. Varies by what the GM is doing. During that your character advances, grows, changes as a person, and gets more powerful.

So game one you're some loser in a tavern looking for work. Game 35 you're punching demigods in the dick.

@CountScrofula I always wanted to try Call of Cthulhu.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Straylight I really enjoy it. It is a game what knows its business and does a good job of encouraging roleplay and hits the horror vibe right. Recommended.

Do it, you should experience it at least once. I played in HS and made some life long friends from it.

My advice is think of a character you'd have lots of fun being. For instance, our current party is:

- a bard who sings songs and has a curse because he angered a wizard so he has to do a morrisey voice most of the time

- a half elf half gnome who eats trippy mushrooms and can talk to badgers and horses

- a Scottish wizard called Craig who's doing his thesis on alchemical transmogrification who's a bit of a dick and a bit racist but he's "alright really"

Whatever you do
Do not look the Dungeon master in the eye

@SW-User Shhh that's how we get 'em
Straylight · 31-35, F
Let’s go on an adventure!
@Straylight leeet's
Straylight · 31-35, F
@HijabaDabbaDoo I legit played D&D, so I’m down with this potential geek phase.
Whodunnit · M
You're safe. D&D type Paladins never actually existed, lol.
@Jessmari @Whodunnit excuse me, are you guys insulting me in nerd? Enough of the profanity, please
Whodunnit · M
@HijabaDabbaDoo Heaven forbid 😲

We shall instead teach you the ways of the nerd!
Jessmari · 41-45
@HijabaDabbaDoo I would never. The most important thing is to have fun. Run wild with it.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
Do ittt it's so funny. You're basically doing improv.
I have a bard and I just write funny songs and sing them while being really narcissistic and ponce-like.

If he's a good DM he'll be loose with the rules and what you can do. Tis all about having fun!.
A Paladin is easy to play.
you always have to be good!
