You thoughts, (religious or not) on organ donation/transplants.

Everyone physically dies. from the moment we are born, we begin to die. What gives doctors the right to change this, to prolong a persons life by taking parts from one human and placing them in another?

I don't see one thing wrong with it. I think it is an option that is a true blessing for those who may otherwise lose their life. I don't see anything sacrilegious about it or anything bad about it. If the person wished to donate their organs to save another life, I say who are we to say otherwise? I think that's a beautiful thing and my organs are going to be donated as well. I can't use them anyway when I'm dead. Haha
@IM5688 I love to hear different thoughts on this subject. I'm still not seeing anything wrong with it. There's a lot of things that we're not done in the past that we have accomplished today and helped people have better and longer lives. I don't think that's against anything or God's will, because his will will be accomplished and people will die when they're time is up anyway and at the right time. God does most certainly use doctors to extend people's lives with medicine or transplants or new modern equipment and other things. It is God who gives that wisdom and I thank God that he does. If he didn't want us to use those things I don't think he would have given us the knowledge and wisdom to do so.

The verse you mentioned....Hebrews 9:27 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.

I see that only as helping people understand that there's no such thing as reincarnation. That verse clarifies that. I don't see it as transplants affecting or bending God's will. Sometimes it is God's will that people's lives are extended and we can see that in the Bible where some have prayed for God to extend a person's life and he did. God's will, will always be done no matter the circumstances. He knows what's best for each one.

Notice how that scripture doesn't just say it is appointed for man to die, but he emphasizes only once. His reason is to highlight the finality of earthly life and the certainty of judgment after death, emphasizing the importance of living a life of faith and living according to scripture and God's will if we want the best life. But he takes it a step further saying, so we won't have to guess about what all happens when we die, that immediately after dying we face the judgment.....which leaves no room for doubt or others to come in and say oh we wander from one place, to the other worlds and are reincarnated. He puts that theory to rest. He's wanting people to know exactly what will happen after they die, so there's no surprises, no guessing, and to let them know they should prepare very carefully for where they wish to spend eternity.

And notice the first two words of that scripture... AND JUST. That's very important because he's saying that just as it was appointed for Christ once to die and RESURRECT, so was it also appointed that man die AND RESURRECT only once.

That phrase "appointed to die once" signifies that death is a natural and inevitable part of the human experience, and there is no second chance after this physical death. Christ wants people to know that there are no second chances. Once you die, you die and immediately after comes the Judgment so they better plan carefully because their soul and eternal destination depends on it.

@LadyGrace "death is a natural and inevitable part of the human experience, and there is no second chance" and I agree with that 100%
However, IMO, taking a part of a human, (or animal, as that has been done also,) and placing it in another human, seems wrong to me and shouldn't be done.
@IM5688 if that is your conviction on this then yes, you should not participate.

I don't see it interfering with God's will, because His will shall be done, regardless. It's saving another life and that's a good thing. If a member of your family's life could be extended and saved from certain death that may have not been from old age but even an accident like a car or motorcycle accident, would you still be opposed to it? It is an act of mercy and charity and great love for someone to want to help another. Organ sharing and donating, can be viewed as a way to share God's love. If it was to save a little baby would you still be opposed to it?

Judaism places a high value on saving a life, and organ donation is generally encouraged, provided it doesn't violate halachah (Jewish law).

Withholding consent for post-mortem organ donation when needed for life-saving procedures is prohibited by Jewish law. However, if a live transplant would place the donor in mortal danger, it should not be undertaken.

Of course, it remains prohibited to take vital organs from living individuals or engage in the buying and selling of human organs. That would be a sin.

I will admit that it upsets me when someone is so religious in a certain religious group I know of, that their own son or daughter could be dying and a transplant would save them but they refuse. I think that's abusive. That is forcing someone else's will upon a poor dying child who could have been saved.

I have thought about this issue more than once and I am not very clear in my opinion on this subject. That's why I have not donated my organs yet. This subject is totally out of my thought process. Here, I don't know what us right or what is wrong.

A very thought provoking question. I love it.

I support organ donations/replacements and had two friends who had heart replacements that gave them several more quality years of life with their families.
Very interesting subject, indeed. Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. Very good. I think it's a matter of personal conscience and choice.
To each their own. There are different circumstances surrounding the donation of organs and how both parties feel about it, that must be considered.
If I die, I am on record as an organ donor.

What gives doctors the right to change this
As a donor, I give doctors the right to use MY body parts to save & extend other lives.

I'm in favour as long as I don't get something from a loose liver.

It's not a question of rights or God. They can do it to save people's lives, so they do.
HobNoblin · 36-40, M
What gives them the right is the fact that nature gave them the brains to figure it out. Nothing exists outside of nature. You can lay it on the doctors but ultimately this is merely another of natures upheavals. A force of nature just as much as a flood or earthquake.

im signed up to donate everything but my corneas
if you think its in question that way, then the whole of medical science is in question.
You're right.

Perhaps you'll get to have organs fail and be asked if you want to be on a transplant list; of course you'll say, "No!".

Hey, stop taking medicine, too. Refuse treatments and vaccines.

And don't take supplements.

Yeah.

Go get 'em!

I've never formed any religious or moral ideas about it, but I've always found the thought of it to be really cheapy.😯

Will my family be financially compensated
If God didnt want them to live....... it wouldnt matter what the doctors did, they couldnt save them. God ultimately decides who lives and who dies.

@YourMomsSecretCrush Very mature response
Why not? If any of my organs could help someone. I won't need them.

Goes right along with sex changes. It is wrong and includes a life time of anti rejection drugs.
What's the problem? I don't see an issue.
Penny · 46-50, F
the donor gives the rights as well as the recipient

I won't be needing them in Hell.
