I’m starting to become one of those people who can’t sleep without some sort of background ambience

Sleeping in complete silence makes me have racing thoughts now, which gives me anxiety and makes me restless. Now unless I’m going to bed real sleepy, I’ll usually have some hours-long video of some sort of ambience or soft lo-fi music playing.

I push myself to sleep by listening to songs that remind me of meanings I once had. That sounds sadder than I mean to express, but it's a way for me to accept what sadness I have and feel.
