After 57 years of marriage to the girl I fell in love with when I was 15, she was 17, married 4 years later, I will say this. Neither of us was perfect, both could hurt the other. Marriage is hard work but commitment to that marriage makes the hard work pay wonderful dividends.

You just need to apply your brains .. he is still a kiddo even after 60 years of marriage. Being born between 1940-50, life was quite different then. So he is not matured enough to comment about marriage. He won't even be able to answer why people marry or what purpose marriage serves.
I don't see where he's comming from either. Kind of a weird take.

Depends on the marriage. I found actually that a wife made me feel more appreciated and more competent at things I thought I was a blunt instrument at.
That's ok . We all have faults . No one is perfect...as long as we learn ...we grow and hopefully become better than we were

You mean it’s a blessing, isn’t it?

Relationships are like being given your favorite thing, and then being kicked in the face and the ass simultaneously.

Marrige is like being stuck in traffic. You are there because of an accident....

It shows the reality of who/what we are as humans beyond the initial 'honeymoon phase' when we are placing our best foot forward and love bombing. Before too much familiarity takes over.

I know I'm not good enough to commit to marriage if I was fortunate enough to be dating someone incredible but as I'm single now for 6 and a bit years it's a moot point.

When I said I do, I would've said I don't if I would've just knew how saying I do was gonna screw up all of my life lol

@Justafantasy Yeah.. make the bungee jump free so people would gather around to push the couple to take the plunge and the couple won't know where they fell .. and have to pay for each and everything from thereon .. Divorce is a lucrative business for the legal system and judiciary. But no bloody law will make pre-nuptial agreement mandatory.

Exactly. So why enter into marriage without drafting deed ? So make it a law that partners must draft a deed and submit it while registering their marriage.
So in case of divorce, the deed can throw light on matters.
You woudn't go into a business partnership without a written agreement would you?
