IF that is true, and that is a big IF imho, I would say it is for two reasons:
1. Men feel more guilt over things they have done and think buying flowers, candy, whatever will cover it up; and, 2. Men tend to leave shopping to the last minute and try to make up for it by buying something flashy, while women tend to give a lot of thought in finding something thoughtful, personal, for that connection they feel with the man which frequently doesn't have a big price tag.
@AngelUnforgiven I'm sure it's not true in all cases. My experiences with relationships have been that the women spend little or nothing on me from a relationship building and sustaining angle, whereas I was expected to spend up on the women or it was just 'bare minimum'.
@Magicianzini And all their fashion, underwear, makeup, handbags (oh sorry the man is the 'handbag'), etc. but that's just on themselves - not what a woman spends on a man in her life.
