You are not a terrible person just for doing that - you are suffering from a obsessive compulsive disorder
Chatting & messaging addiction is a social disease
Just change your sim card, block internet and keep yourself away from the compulsive act. You will need 1)some plan of activities to pass the time and 2) some well wisher friend/relative whom you can phone or talk with about your difficult time, because kicking any habit is a difficult time.
I had to do that for kicking a decades old heroin habit. I know.

You seem to be very conflicted. From "I'm struggling," we moved on to "Am I searching for the impossible?” Being terrible doesn't have to mean remaining terrible. Please seek therapy.

You just need to find something else to occupy your time. Watch more porn, or read a book, build a boat? I knew a guy built a boat once, took most of a year. Work something out that works for you. I think I'd build an airplane myself!
