What is your opinion of the "Dine and Dash Dater?"

He is a 45 year old man facing several felony counts for dining out with a date and then running off without paying his share of the bill. The last felony count was for a filet mignon and shrimp dinner...which he ate...and then dashed out the door leaving his date to pay the entire bill.

In my state an Officer can only arrest on a misdemeanor charge if the crime is committed in his presence. (there are certain exceptions). With felonies an officer can arrest if he has probable cause to believe there was a crime committed and the suspect committed the crime. There are felony charges that are used to enable the arrest and proper identification of lawbreakers, but that they are never finally charged with.

ie. "Larceny from a Building" is always a felony, but the criminal is never charged with a felony unless the value exceeds a certain dollar amount or they have three or more convictions for what they are eventually charged with "Shoplifting"

Another example is "Defrauding an Innkeeper", again they end up being charged with simple larceny. The felony charge is used to enable the arrest and identification of the suspect. Once they are identified, fingerprinted and photographed they are released on bond and eventually charged with the misdemeanor.

The "felonies" are essentially practical administrative charges that allow the police to get involved.

Felony theft would have to be 300-500 dollars depending on where you live. That’s a hella expensive meal.

@Trucker334 He is in Southern California. He is being charged with theft and extortion.

😂😂😂 California, that explains it. @4meAndyou

@4meAndyou Sometimes his dates pay the bill, if they can afford it. Otherwise the restaurants have been picking up the charge. He tells his dates his cell phone is low on charge and he has to run out to the car to get his charger.

If the bill gets paid by either party, why is there any charges at all?
4meAndyou · F
@TheJagsman I am trying to figure that out. We need a lawyer to weigh in on this.

It's kinda funny tbh. 😂

@SW-User You might not think so if he sucked you in. Imagine him calling and asking you out for a romantic dinner at an expensive restaurant. He tells you to order whatever you want...to really live it up. He orders the lobster and a shrimp cocktail and a magnum of champagne. When he is finishing his $16.00 dessert he exclaims..."Oh my gosh! My cell phone is dying!" He tells you he needs to run out to his car to get his charger....and you never see him again. The waiter presents you with a bill for $150.00 not including the tip. You can't pay the bill. Everyone is staring at you, assuming that YOU are a deadbeat. The restaurant calls the police...

@SW-User One nice thing is that his days of defrauding dates and restaurants are over. His photo is all over the news.

That’s BS doesn’t seem worth it, once he gets caught he will be fed and not be able to run away..
He might be an idiot but is this illegal?Anyway, stop giving me ideas....😹😎

@TheSirfurryanimalWales 🤣😲 If you think about it, it could be labeled extortion or even fraud...because he is setting up an expensive date under false pretenses while planning to abscond in advance and leave his unsuspecting date with the bill, even if she has no means of paying. Of the thirteen incidents, the restaurant has had to absorb the bill, so it is also theft, and the total amount of the theft exceeds $1000.00
Felony? He does seem like a real arsehole but a felon?
4meAndyou · F
@WittyKittyfeelinShitty I know. There were 13 incidents where he basically stole his dinner. He is also being charged with extortion for deceiving his dates into believing he would pay, and extortion is a felony in all states. Then the dollar amount of the total theft exceeds $500, because there were 13 very expensive dinners, usually about $100 each dinner. 8 women were left to pay his charges, which exceeded $1000.00. The remaining charges were picked up by the restaurants. The last woman he ditched had to pay $130.00. He has been doing this since 2016.
