Ok so let me start this off with this is my dream girl. She's pretty, smart, and has a fantastic personality. She likes to read, sing, and dance. She's a Christian like me (which is fantastic). She's all around a great person. We work together. I do hang out with her sometimes. She's not dating someone else. She might like me I don't know. If she does like me idk if it's like obvious.

Now for the bad news. My parents don't want me to date. It might not sound big but it's kinda a big deal. I don't have her number. She's younger than me. I've only known her for about a year.

I'm 18. I'm in my senior year of high school.

So Should I date her?

You are old enough to make your own decisions so if she's your dream girl I say date her and see where it leads. I don't know anything about you, of course, but my guess is your parents won't really worry too much so long as it doesn't have a negative impact on other areas of your life - like school work, for instance.

Well I guess the worst thing that could happen is that she says no, I get fired for harassment for asking her, and my parents find out. Like that is the worst that could happen. Or I could die before I get to ask her. Either one.
... ok I'll think about it.

@ajdavis: If she says no you would have to accept that, of course, otherwise it would become harassment. Presumably she has similar life and study pressures to you at the moment and she might say no for that reason. If so, you could still try asking at a later date when the circumstances are better. That's what I was thinking. Good luck, anyway.

Thanks

You're 18. You're legally an adult and are old enough to start making your own decisions. If you want to pursue a relationship with this girl then go for it and tell your parents to shove it. Respect between parents and their offspring isn't a one-way street. If they can't respect the fact that you're a grown-up now and want to still be controlling over you then they don't deserve your respect.

Thanks but I like just turned 18 lol. Not much adult experience here.
Carver · 31-35, F
@ajdavis: It doesn't matter. You're officially an adult the day you turn 18. Consider this an opportunity to make your first major adult decisions and letting your parents know that you're not a child anymore.

i think you should try to get to know her better but **not** try to date her. she's your 'dream girl' you say but you don't actually know her. you simply imagine her to be your dream girl. maybe she is. maybe she isn't . . . get to know the real her with an open mind and the rest will follow

My own boys could have posted this same story. lol
I didn't want them dating either.
I wanted them focusing on school...not girls.
Didn't always work...but I tried.
:)

why don't your parents want you to date
you're 18?

ask her for coffee
DeltaEcho · 26-30, M
They don't want me to date until I'm out of collage so that my education is out of the way. they say "There's always time for that later"

do you know I hear that so often, but I think it is so important to teach a child how to balance emotions and relationships alongside everything else.
giving your child the confidence and the support with which to build relationships is so much better all round
DeltaEcho · 26-30, M
I agree. It's good to try and balance those.
KingofPizza2 · 36-40, M
Your parents don't want you to date her, or date at all?

And yeah, how much younger is she?
DeltaEcho · 26-30, M
At all.
She's like going to be 17 in like a month and I just turned 18 8 days ago.
livesincar · 41-45, M
