Have you ever been betrayed by a friend?

If so what happened?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M Best Comment
I found out second hand.

I had a close friend, Mark, from high school. I went above and beyond for this guy, even talked to the cops when he crashed his car, was always there. Then, one day, a mutual friend called me up and said "Mark was trashing you in front of everyone last night! He was going on and on about how you tell everyone how much your stuff costs and how great it is!" ALL lies. My jaw hung open. I had zero reason to doubt our mutual friend. I asked him if he was sure, absolutely sure and he said yes.

It stung for a while, then I just pulled back, didn't confront him, didn't do, well, anything with him for decades. Still won't now, though I'm FB friends with him. If anything, HE is the one with his head up his own ass. He's the guy who posts 42 pictures of him going to Applebees. Lives his own life beyond his means.....to impress everyone. It's really sad. It's mental illness.

@uncalled4 that is quite the betrayal there YW

Gaslighted.

Months ago (2018-2019?) I had texted a friend whom I thought was my best friend. We used to play together when we were little kids.
This little incident happened around when I was 15. Months ago (2018-2019?), I had confessed my feelings to her, despite us not seeing each other due to me going to an alternative school (an alternative school for mental health students). She told me that she's straight and that she's still comfortable being my friend.

2019, she asked me to go to the movies with her to see Happy Death Day 2 U (a very good movie, btw. 8/10 recommend). I had already seen the movie and I told her that. But since we hardly hung out anymore, I decided that watching the movie again wouldn't hurt, so I told her that I wouldn't mind.
I asked my aunt for money since my mom didn't have any.
We got in the movie room and she didn't even seem interested in the movie; she was looking for someone, expecting someone. She spotted a guy friend of hers in the movie room while the movie was in like the first 10 minutes. This girl ditched me just to go sit with her guy friend. They were sitting several rows down away from me, cuddling in their seats.

Now, the thing with me, I won't get jealous over someone who most likely isn't even mine to begin with, let alone have feelings for me.
When she asked me to the movies, I agreed because I wanted to hang out with her since we hardly even see each other. I agreed because I had no friends and thought she was a real one.
I was angry at her because she ditched me during the whole movie.
Apparently, her mother did not want her to go to the movies with her guy friend (due to obvious reasons. Like, who will let their 15 year old daughter hang out with a male her age?), so she planned the whole thing just to see her guy friend behind her mother's back.

Now, I have been going to the movies by myself since I was 14 years old. Even if her mother didn't allow her to go to the movies alone (maybe she would have. Idk), the so-called friend said that she was scared to go to the movies alone. I wasn't scared because it wasn't my first rodeo.

I felt betrayed by what she did. I texted her the same night, confronting her. She gaslighted me by telling me that I was just jealous. Even after I told her that I had pushed my feelings aside for that whole night, and called her out for how wrong she was for that, she still gaslighted me. I blocked her because I found she made zero sense.

I told her mother.

Saw her at prom. Guess she shurgged that aside since she gave me a smile and hugged me. I took that with a pinch of salt. She was pregnant during prom and just had her baby a couple months ago. She already has a man that is the father. Guess she's happy.

She's so far out and I'm working on my mental health.

@Xalvadora sheesh people are wild
Xalvadora · 18-21, F
@SW-User They are. It's like the people I graduated high school with, or people who I know, but doesn't go to school with them, were getting pregnant in the beginning of the second term of their senior year. They literally timed their pregnancy and took the term, "Finish your books before you get pregnant/Finish school before getting pregnant." Seriously.
My mom told me when I was 12, to finish my books before I date/marry someone. As I grew older, I realized that I'm done looking for a relationship and I want the right one to find me. I just got tired of looking for a relationship to the point where I don't even want to be in one.
SW-User
@Xalvadora yeah i think relationships are overrated anyway
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
Of course! Who hasn't?
SW-User

Yes, he used all my private thoughts i shared with him against me to belittle and insult me..
I thought he was a good friend.. his drinking made him really nasty but when he was sober he was a great guy

AnonymousJSS · 22-25, F
Yes, coincidentally they were all female. Which is why I hate women. They all basically just backstab you and gossip.
My only friends now are guys who I’ve known for YEARS, and they’re all so honest and loyal.

@AnonymousJSS loyalty YASSSSSS
bushi2020 · 36-40, M
Yep, he used me for years all under the veil of brotherhood things came to ahead when I found out he had something going on with a woman I knew. Friendship is a tricky thing because everyone is your friend for a reason.
SW-User
@bushi2020 i feel that
SW-User
Yeah. But the majority of people will turn on you if they think it can benefit them. I only have a few friends that i would trust. The rest have all proven to be liars.

akindheart · 61-69, F
yes many times. It always backfires on them in the end because karma gets them. They only tell what I say. Not what they say OR they take it out of context.

Yes.

I helped a woman friend out with a problem; with a promise of privacy.

She did not respect our promise.
SW-User

You’ve never known hurt til you have!
SW-User
@NoGamesTolerated ahh I see what you did there 😝
@SW-User Listen up …🙂 there is No Greater Hurt than to be betrayed by a real friend! Ladies and gents come a dime a dozen and go even faster. But a lifetime friend is a treasure. Yes. The hurt is deep and very personal when it’s a friend.
SW-User
@NoGamesTolerated inspiring words!
