That's rough. But it's not really something that can be forced. It would only lead to long term misery. Should probably talk to him about it if he seems to have romantic interest. There's a chance he bounces when he knows that avenue isn't there, but if he doesn't then you may end up with a pretty solid friend.

Be honest. And if honesty causes problems, then things would have broken down eventually anyways.

He might be having exactly the same thoughts. No disrespect, but you're assuming the guy is talking to you because he's attracted to you romantically. I have a few female friends I get along with famously, but there's no mutual sexual attraction, we're friends. Just accept it as a friendship. You don't have to "do" anything about it.
