Could the only reason you fell in love with your friend be that you were denied benefits?

I'm thinking of 2 who I was very close to. In one case I found myself feeling like I was falling in love with her sometimes. I never confirmed what those feelings were about. My latest idea is that it was because she didn't do FWB.
I also had another friend who I cared a lot about but never felt for a second that I wanted her as my gf. And our friendship was the kind that couldn't possibly be maintained unless we were both single. Maybe that's the difference. Going there killed the love or the ILLUSION of love.

Yeah I've heard about catching feelings. I don't think it's ever worked that way for me.

I would not use the word "love" for whatever you have just described in the question.

I don't know what it is but it's clearly not love.

@Horok most relevant comment as well. So what would you call it?

I had a similar experience one time..i fell head over heels for a friend from church camp, but he ignored me all throughout highschool. After graduation, he moved away and we became friends on social media. Two years into the online conversations, he told me he wanted more than screen time. We decided to " netflix" and chill and it was akward at first, but after movie binge night 1, he told me he realized how much into id been and sincevthat day hes been infatuated with my pictures. He confessed to me about 9 months later he wanted to bet flix and chill again, but i wasnt interested. We had such a good conversation online i felt in person he flipped. Well, 10 years went by and he still tells me im the best hed ever had but got away..i was interested then but not so much now. He has a pleathera of FWB and tells me they arent like me at all can we try Netflix and chill..i turned him diwn became silent and ghosted him. He got the hint after that. I like the thought of his online personality, but IRL, hes not that magical 😔

I have 2 male best friends and one of them said he was falling for me i told him that its misplaced he loves what i stand for and who i am. I could never see him as anything other than a friend.

I think those feelings grows because not reciprocated while the 2 of you keep staying close. It's the worst case scenario. You can't just turn the switch off while being around her. Some distance is necessary if you want to save your friendship.

@eMortal yes, but I'm wondering if we got closer, if it would have made things better

This feels more like infatuation or something.

You’re not in love .. just liking the idea of the “what ifs”
ekwalizur · 41-45, M
@stayfickle does that mean benefits are a good cure for infatuation?
stayfickle · 26-30, F
@ekwalizur nope. It makes things worse - but that’s my PoV. It depends with your situation and that person.

the great thing about getting old is you learn how to love yourself. Even masturbation is having sex with someone you care about

ekwalizur · 41-45, M
@zonavar68 what does anyone mean?
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@ekwalizur it can mean several things - government handouts, sex, etc.
ekwalizur · 41-45, M
@zonavar68 only the kind afforded by friends
