Fear of the unknown, lack of confidence, the comfort of familiarity (no matter how distasteful) and the discomfort involved with implementing change.
But complaints because we know there’s a better way to live and there remains a deep longing for that.
Like prisoners who become institutionalized and have great difficulties functioning outside the prison walls, people’s minds can become prisons and keep them from breaking free.

@OlderSometimesWiser The amazing thing about Vickie is she found happiness in everyday life even after all she'd been through. She was like a giddy child around babies. She also never met a stranger and couldn't strike up a conversation with. Being so much different I will never stop missing her.
@Gibbon Sometimes experiencing so much pain causes you to appreciate the good things in life even more. 🙂

@OlderSometimesWiser True for her. Living here she found an inner peace she deserved and appreciated. I'll never forget her daughter telling me she told her she was the happiest she'd ever been.

Yes I believe anyone can but not everyone wants to do the work.
They get distracted by life, you have to face it and feel it.

Reasons are different for different people
The fear of being alone, financial struggle, kids, age and unavailability of another potential partner, distrusts in others. Could be any of these or a combination of these with much more.

@EldritchFoxWhat do people fear?
@Renkon that they aren't loveable. That they can't make it on their own. That they're at fault somehow.

@EldritchFox It’s a terrifying feeling to carry…. wouldn’t that keep them trapped in an illusion of helplessness?

Some of us DO walk free. It might take a while...but we DO free ourselves. 🤗🤗🤗

@Renkon ANGER. The anger I felt strengthened me.
I realized that I had spent 25 years with someone I THOUGHT I loved...but that he had not BEEN that person for a very long time.
He switched from being physically abusive to mentally abusive in order to avoid the jail I threatened him with...but I finally had ENOUGH.
I realized I still had a very large block of my life left to live, and I did NOT want to waste one more minute of it with him.
