The Kitchen God's Wife by Amy Tan. The story of a Chinese immigrant telling her daughter the truth about how she ended up in the United States. It's beautiful, tragic, but so worth reading.

The Storyteller. It's about the holocaust and its affects on a survivor and her granddaughter. You hear the story of the granddaughter in modern day, the grandmas teenage years as the nazis took over and she was taken to a camp, and the story the grandmother was writing (and later telling to the women in the camps)

Flowers for Algernon always gets to me. The main character's journey hits a little too close to home for me
robertsnj · 56-60, M
@TinyViolins what is book about and in what way does it hit too close to home?
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@robertsnj It's about a man with a mental disability who wants to become 'normal', so he undergoes an experimental brain surgery that ends up giving him genius intellect.
As he gets progressively smarter, he starts analyzing his relationships and his past through a much more critical lens, and it's pretty depressing when he realizes things weren't what he thought they were

Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Devastatingly romantic and tragic. I was weeping openly - even knowing from the start how the story would end.

@jademonkey19 I read Circe by her and enjoyed it. I'll have to check out Song of Achilles.

Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin has made me cry multiple times but I keep going back to it. A Thousand Splendid Suns also go to me pretty hard.

I almost always cry when I get to the end of a John Sandford novel. These are very violent and pretty disgusting mysteries over 400 pages long and yet at the end something warm and wonderful will reduce me to tears.

Years ago I had book that made me cry.
I was actually the author.
It was call MY CHECK BOOK AND REGISTRY.

I tear up with any book that builds up a solid character and then that character is dying and the whole matter is drawn out in details.
