57 is my record. Certainly not epics like War and Peace, more like mystery, science fiction, etc., averaging under 350-400 pages per book.

@NiftyWhite King was good for the first few, then got very mediocre.
Except for The Shining I have completely outgrown him

@Slade people really praise the shining but I don’t wanna read it cause 1) i thought the movie was dumb and 2) I haven’t liked any of his books so far and 3) isn’t Shining a long commitment? I saw it recently but I can’t remember how long it was but I don’t wanna read half of it and hate it before I give up
I’d like to read “It” but that for sure is too long.

@NiftyWhite Shining's about 500 pages. Like the movie it exudes creepiness throughout but is also quite different. When I first read it at about 19 I couldn't put it down

i’m having a good year!!

Some years back, I read a series by O'Brien on Captn Jack Aubrey and Maturin ( Master and Commander movie came from 5 of these).. 20 books in 6 weeks. It was a fun adventure written by a naval historian.

@NiftyWhite Younger I liked mysteries. but they became redundant. Sci Fi can have original premises... Sci fi is not always very sciencey. I have to see and "taste' a book before I read it. I have also been a book vulture on books my wife has read 🙄
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@Neoerectus same. Jodi Piccoult has some good ones but then like you said they started to seem redundant too. I read some Nicholas Sparks and he’s always kinda wishy washy romantic that gets old over time. James Patterson meh. Dan Brown books are pretty good. Really enjoyed Angels and Demons….
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@Neoerectus Fabulous series. I’ve read them all.
I used to read a book a week on average when I was younger
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@Ozymandiaz that’s a lot. So maybe 40-50 a year. I mean I could do that if I had nothing else to do but not now and I’d have a hard time picking that many books I actually want to read
@NiftyWhite Maybe 40 give or take I reckon.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
That’s 3-4 books a month. I’ll prob have to retire before I make it happen lol. @Ozymandiaz
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
I usually read 25 to 30 books a year.
Slade · 56-60, M
@Fungirlmmm tech manuals? Wtf?
But everything else is great. Anything with organized crime (especially in NY or Boston,). Legal and crime thrillers, bios, suspense, I consume them all

@Slade I am a techy chick

I’ve never had targets, but in the past I’ve had three or four books on the go at once. Nowadays I’m lucky to read three or four a year. For me, it’s about the quality, not the quantity.
I read between one or two a week and one per month -- prefer paper books and love my local library.
How long a book takes depends on the genre, density of content and style, and length.

Hundreds. As a young teenager I read a paperback book a day. Of course they weren't airport novel sized in those days.
These days I'm down to one or two a week.

Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
@ninalanyon When I was a kid I would do that in the summer. I practically lived at the library.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
50ish. More typical is 30-35. Modern fiction, history, classic fiction, crime novels. If you count short poetry books you can add another 5-10.
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
i often have 3-4,5-6 on the go at the same time,i read a few chapters here a few there etc.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
Same for me it’s like tv. I don’t watch tv I hate it so I read many books at once’s @wonkywinky
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
@NiftyWhite I dont mind TV its just often sooo samey.
I read military history,so its easier just to jump in at the point i left.
Today D-day,tomorrow might be Ardennes etc!

I haven't counted. Probably two a month on my Kindle and one hardback nonfiction tome every six weeks. So I average about 30 a year.
reubles · 41-45, M
No clue, I didn't really keep track, but in high school I read between 5 and ten books per week. All in French
RosaMarie · 41-45, F
In middle and high school, I'm sure it was over 100 a year. I read in any spare time I had.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
I'd guess over 200 in a few different years.
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
@ChipmunkErnie 200??? We talking novels here?? That’s 4 books a week! How??? Even on vacation I can’t read more than 2 unless I’m reeeeeeaaallllly crammming.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@NiftyWhite Novels, short story collections, biographies, histories, even sometime poetry or plays. Lots of mysteries, sci-fi, etc. Some short, some long. Sometimes one-in-a-day. Usually, if something is really long, I'll read shorter novels at the same time.
Slade · 56-60, M
More than 100. Especially the pandemic year
Pinkstarburst · 51-55, F
I have no idea. I’ve never kept count.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Perhaps 6
DDonde · 31-35, M
I used to read many books a year as a kid. If I ever had a record I would've set it back then.

What did you read about? I find it hard to find books I actually want to read. And even more rare - ones that make me want to keep reading! @Stereoguy
