For people who like to read: What’s the most books you ever read in a year?

My goal this year was 10 which I had a hard time doing before but this year I am surpassing it and I’m almost at 12. Not to mention some of them are giant novels and are practically 3- 4 average length novels in one . But I’m curious how much other readers read.

Some years back, I read a series by O'Brien on Captn Jack Aubrey and Maturin ( Master and Commander movie came from 5 of these).. 20 books in 6 weeks. It was a fun adventure written by a naval historian.

Wow 6 weeks!!! How long were these books?? @Neoerectus

@NiftyWhite They were fairly easy to read and fun so I flew through them. 300-400ppg(had to look them up- I didnt remember how long they were). I had time to do so. I tend to read faster than avg I have been told.

@Neoerectus some people who are avid readers do read faster especially if they were readers as kids. Me, I can read prob a little faster than average but i daydream if it gets boring or if I’m stressed or very excited about something so I have to reread certain parts and saps my progress lol.

@NiftyWhite I can be the same way. i started off in Political Sci in College, but the dull-boring books we read changed my mind quickly. Authors took FOREVER to make a simple point. Snooze fest.

@NiftyWhite When children small, we only did cable sporadically to foster reading. it worked. Both read.

@Neoerectus I think my parents tried to encourage reading with us but I am the only reader of 3 and honestly I only do it because I find it mentally enriching, but not really out of pure enjoyment unless the story or topic is VERY interesting or relevant. I am more often disappointed by most books than not, really. It take a lot for a book to make me think “wow”.

@NiftyWhite Younger I liked mysteries. but they became redundant. Sci Fi can have original premises... Sci fi is not always very sciencey. I have to see and "taste' a book before I read it. I have also been a book vulture on books my wife has read 🙄

@Neoerectus same. Jodi Piccoult has some good ones but then like you said they started to seem redundant too. I read some Nicholas Sparks and he’s always kinda wishy washy romantic that gets old over time. James Patterson meh. Dan Brown books are pretty good. Really enjoyed Angels and Demons….

@Neoerectus Fabulous series. I’ve read them all.
