57 is my record. Certainly not epics like War and Peace, more like mystery, science fiction, etc., averaging under 350-400 pages per book.

That counts! Personally I count the longer ones as more than one novel. (Although I didn’t in this post) pillars of the earth for example is 1000 pages which to me is not fair to say it’s just one book really when I could have read 3-4 in the time it took to read that one. @Ontheroad if I counted large novels as more than one then I’ve prob read 16-17 books so far.

@NiftyWhite Follet's master piece! I absolutely loved Pillars of the Earth. There are few who can write like that. It's like you are there, living each word, sentence and phrase.

@NiftyWhite Also, my 57 books in one year was when I was stationed (while in the Army) at a very remote site with nothing to do during my off time. Kept me from going nuts 😁.

@Ontheroad yes Pillars is a good book. Normally when I read long books like that they are unnecessarily long but i feel he’s very much to the point while still successfully choreographing enough drama to maintain interest. That’s talent! I have also picked up World Without End by Follet too. Did you read that one?

@NiftyWhite Hmmm, can't remember. I used to keep a list of all the books I've read, but somehow I lost it. It sounds familiar, just not sure. If you are into the historical fiction genre, you might want to try "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant. Quite an unusual and well written book.

@Ontheroad you ever read Stephen king?? Nothing he has written has impressed me. Salems lot was good, but not amazing. I also read elevation and the Tommyknockers. I don’t get the hype. A good writer? Sure but not that good. I’m enjoying Follet a lot more - I’ve read some of his suspense novels too.

@NiftyWhite I've read several of King's books - okay, but nothing spectacular. I think I was done with him after the first book I read of his, but "people" kept saying how good he was, so I read others and no, he isn't a good story teller, more a good writer. Follet on the other hand is a master at both writing and story lines.

@Ontheroad I couldn’t say it better myself! Youre exactly right on all of that! Thanks for validating what i I thought was just me!

@NiftyWhite King was good for the first few, then got very mediocre.
Except for The Shining I have completely outgrown him

@SW-User people really praise the shining but I don’t wanna read it cause 1) i thought the movie was dumb and 2) I haven’t liked any of his books so far and 3) isn’t Shining a long commitment? I saw it recently but I can’t remember how long it was but I don’t wanna read half of it and hate it before I give up
I’d like to read “It” but that for sure is too long.

@NiftyWhite Shining's about 500 pages. Like the movie it exudes creepiness throughout but is also quite different. When I first read it at about 19 I couldn't put it down
