It’s Monday. It’s annual review day.

Me pretending I don’t suddenly need to change careers and move to a lighthouse. If they have good coffee..why not? 👀

Every year I always get that tiny knot in my stomach.

Even though I show up.

Even though I work hard.

Even though I care and like my job.

Why do we doubt ourselves on days meant to reflect our effort?

Anxiety is there to look after us. It's pretty normal to feel a bit at times. Tomorrow it will be over and done with! 🫡 (I didn't much like 'appraisals' as we called them, either...)

Over confidence can lead to disappointment. I like your approach. It’s totally normal to feel nervous. Good luck and let us know.
@4thdimensiondream it went well

@Bexsy hope that comes with a bonus and or increase! Congrats!

In my experience it is because of the randomness. In every org I have worked we got the same training of constant interaction...praise, assistance, should be no surprises, ideal is reviews from above and below, etc.

Yet in every instance, it was a dreaded poorly organized affair with little value that did most of the "dont do this" items in the trainings.

Because you're very keenly reminded that you work there on someone else's sufferance and performance assessment time is a very helpless feeling.
@CountScrofula helpless is a good description

@Bexsy Yeah this is my stock and trade and I hate performance assessments. Most bosses aren't constantly pulling rank in a way which is destabilizing but performance assessment you're just at their mercy. It's always stressful.

I hated review days when I was being reviewed and when I was the manager doing the review. Fortunately, I had a great staff, so most reviews were pleasant.

You got this sis! Totally understand your nerves. It’ll be fine. 🤗🤗
@FreeorLonely I'm going to wait until after to do lunch. Will be late lunch
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
@Bexsy I don’t blame you. 🤗. Seriously though it’ll be fine and I bet you get a raise too.
@FreeorLonely I'll keep you posted sis🤗

I was always nervous about reviews...even though I didn't have as much to worry about as many others. It's natural to worry about things when you care
I doubt myself daily...in work...in my relationships...in prioritizing my life goals!
GuiltyBiStander · 31-35, F
I declare you wonderful and your performance outstanding.

Review complete.

Till next year 👍
