Why English is full of silent letters

I absolutely enjoyed this man's video. After all the words he mentioned, I'm surprised he didn't remember the word ''Worcestershire'', pronounced as ''Wu-stuh-shuh'' in the UK and in the US, as "Woos-ter-sher", although I have heard it pronounced more commonly as ''wors-ter-sher ''.

Humans, quite evidently, are the only beings on Earth that like complicating things🤦‍♀ 🤷‍♀
