Lots of questions in one post . .
I think many older people are naturally privileged in experience, resourcefulness, and wisdom. I think many younger people are naturally privileged in energy, creativity, and confidence. However, I don't think either group should be favoured or privileged by society. If a young person needs a home to fulfil their potential, or an older person would benefit from a university education, we should be able to find a way of doing these things together.
We are interdependent and will become more so as society ages and inequality widens. We have to improve relations between the generations and share the wealth more widely, or we all face a miserable, lonely future.
Heavens. I'm not even sure when I became a woman. I've supported myself and others financially since I left school at 18. Some folk say that adulthood begins with your first mortgage. I would happily have lived in rented accommodation for the rest of my life, but I was advised that owning my own home would simplify the adoption process, so I bought property last year. Worked with the judge, but I'll always be the youngest daughter in the eyes of my mum 😐
