So, a student walked into my office this morning

looking for some technical assistance on a website. All well and good; sort of what I do. This particular student is sort of a big deal around here because she won some big time state-wide beauty pageant. And she certainly is a beautiful young woman, no doubt. Well dressed, articulate, well prepared for the career for which she is training.

The only thing is that I could smell her perfume or cologne from across the room. When she stepped over to point out something on my monitor, I thought it was going to burn out my nose hairs.

I've never really paid attention to this sort of thing, but I always thought the rule for scent was to not have a heavy hand when applying it? You know, the spritz it in the air and walk through the cloud sort of thing?

No big deal. It just, well, struck me. Like a scented board.

Agree.. Perfume should be subtle, it should almost be discovered by accident, given only to those who are close... Not used like a chlorine gas attack in 1918

@Convivial Subtlety is for people who can't afford quantity. :-)

That’s the reason so many offices won’t allow perfume or cologne any more.
Consider the possibility that the young woman's olfactory sense is not functioning properly. She may not be able to tell how strong the scent is.
