Doctor, my eyes....

A while back, I developed floaters in both eyes — not bad, basically just enough to be annoying. A short time later, I developed a blurry spot in the center of the field of vision in my right eye.

It was worrisome, as blurriness in the center is one symptom of macular degeneration, a serious eye condition.

I got in to see my ophthalmologist pretty quickly, and it was determined that my problem was that the vitreous gel in both of my eyes had detached from my retinas. Apparently, this is quite common as we age, and as the detachment didn't damage the retinas at all, all was as good as it was going to get.

Man, I remember back to the days when my vision was better than 20/20. Aging is not for weak, let me tell you.

I have those problems too. I have cataracts. I can't afford surgery. Looks like I will go blind in a few years. I can't read books anymore. Ya gotta love healthcare in America. Land of the free, home of the endless greed.

@DunningKruger Medicare covers some of it. But it would cost me thousands and thousands of dollars, which I don't have. I pay $170 a month from my Social Security for Medicare, and my SS doesn't even cover my half of the rent. Ain't I lucky to live in America?

@hunkalove Endless greed is not unique to America. It's everywhere; but maybe the USA has excelled in promoting it as a virtue, even pandering to it as official government policy; at least more blatantly than in many other countries.

But it's everywhere. I'm sorry you can't get proper funding for your eyesight problem. Keep trying!

@hunkalove check again, as long as you don't get the Taurec (spelling?) that function like bifocals and have them do it without the laser Medicare covered all of it. They did for me. There is the cost of the prescription eyedrops for before and after but not for the surgery.

consider zinc. i take 11 mg zinc citrate with dinner each night. has additional benefits, and being male you should probably take at least double that, not to exceed 30 mgs a day.
