Is it possible for a person to be dirty and can’t help it? Is it a mental health thing? One of my daughters room is always dirty.

She’s been on so many different types of punishment. Today she told me she don’t know how to clean it the way I want it. She said she don’t think it’s as dirty as I’m saying it is. It’s really making me upset. I don’t want to keep punishing her for something she can’t control but how can you not control being dirty. I want to better understand her.

she could be depressed, that can make it very hard for people to take care of their spaces or even themselves at times. she could also have am attention deficit disorder which can make it really hard to get certain things done as well, and it tends to be looked over in girls/women. my mom took me to the doctor for these issues and I started medicine that helped me get things done and my grades even went from d's/c's to b's/a's

Have you ever cleaned it together so she knows how to and what is expected?

If someone has executive dysfunction they may struggle with organization and keeping things straightened up.

ED can be seen in neurodivergents and people with trauma.
