I am the jerk here?

My mom and her side is all native American. She has this feather fan on display in the living room. A bunch of us were over for dinner yesterday and I made a comment about how it looked kinky with these leather tassle things hanging from the handle. I picked it up and pretended to smack my one sister's butt with it while laughing. My mom got offended as did my oldest sister. I have 2 older sisters. I got lectured essentially. I still don't think making a joke is wrong.

I am a proud Cree Nation native myself. Honestly there's nothing wrong with a joke but when it comes to a tribal or ceremonial item of such great importance that is not something to joke about that is like making fun of somebody's heritage. Or insulting the ancestors I don't find it hilarious at all
@KingofBones1 My Great Grandfather, whose own father was Cherokee, would have disowned the OP without hesitation.

Kinda harsh? Wouldn't a wise man try his best to set him straight in a positive way?

@rinkydinkydoink but to be set straight he has to be willing to listen. For a deaf ear hears and learns nothing
