I am not sorry

That I do not wish to watch the funeral of the Queen ....why is it on every channel in the United States?

Can someone explain this to me like we didn't fight a war to leave the rule of a King and steal the land from Natives?

You're not alone. I've watched/read very little about the royal transition. Elizabeth is out, Charles is in. Got it.

I have many British friends and have had this conversation with them directly. I simply do not understand how we have divinely anointed monarchies in 2022. I don't get it.

And I don't mean to take anything away from Elizabeth. I understand that she was a good person and did her people proud. I get it. But still, by the simple fact that she held the position means that she accepts that she is "royal" (whatever-the-hell that means) and we are not. Personally, I reject that concept.

Agreed. Why is our culture obsessed with royalty, wealth and the rituals of that archaic institution?

@Serendipitymaybe I am not sure..very ironic if you ask me.

I understand the appeal but I won’t be watching. Too much real life to deal with.
It's not like this happens every day. It's an unusual story. Nobody much under age 80 was around for the last one, and King George VI's funeral wasn't televised. Expect the same for Charles' coronation.

@LeopoldBloom You're right. It doesn't happen everyday. So when she passed, a news story on the British monarch passing would have been sufficient.

But the obsession with all things royal in the last week has been insane. Personally, I object to the very concept that anyone is "royal" and most especially object to the crown's claim to be divinely anointed.
@LeopoldBloom Both the wedding between Charles and Diana and Diana’s funeral received a lot of footage here, too.
@bijouxbroussard I didn't watch it as I didn't own a TV at the time, but I heard about it. I remember being in a class and this girl I was sitting next to had a photo, and said "she looks Greek" referring to Diana. I made some inane comment about how all the European nobility were related, and she gave me this weird look and said "I mean Greek like she's in a sorority."
I’m watching the Disney channel so I didn’t realize (it’s not airing there). I guess, they’re our friends now and this is a big deal. Just like everyone was watching the wedding between Charles and Diana years ago (that was on our main networks, as was Diana’s funeral, now that I think of it), so is this.

@SooperSarah I do not recall what I watched but it was not the funeral. 🤣
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
She is Queen of more than just the UK. Australia, New Zealand, Canada and a few other Relms; about 16. Head of the Commonwealth which comprises 54 or so Nations.

However I am watching a Clive Cussler/Dirk Pitt film.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@KiwiBird she is not the Queen of the world. And she is not the Queen of the United States...so, again., there is absolutely no need for this funeral to be on every major television station..not even in the countries in which she was the Queen.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@JaggedLittlePill I can't understand US TV channels either. One would be sufficient you would think.
vorian · 51-55, M
Im as english as it gets...and i didnt watch.
Its someones mother and grandmother so im respectful about that...but god...she was 96...its hardly a shock.
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
Alex, I’ll take “Reasons I only watch steaming TV” for $400, please 😂
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Zaphod42 Dude...there is live tv on streaming too. 🙄😏
Zaphod42 · 51-55, M
I prefer it Memorex to live 😂 @JaggedLittlePill
HarryHawk · 61-69, M
Is it really on every channel?
HarryHawk · 61-69, M
@JaggedLittlePill but don't you have hundreds of channels? There must be something you can watch?
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@HarryHawk Are you dense on purpose or inadvertently?

No need to be on every channel if people want to watch they can choose.

The major stations are where news happens in the morning, there is no news.

It isn't about me being unable to watch what I want to watch..it is about not shoving this down our throats.

Have a lovely day.
