I often end up trying to correct something I didn't even say. I have a work colleague who is good at this. 🐄 Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but this phrase is sometimes used to slightly twist your argument and misrepresents your point. It's like a conversational speed bump that can feel patronising because they seem to be watering down what you say.
My niece was trying to explain the color of hair, one of her friend has. She kept trying to describe it and not well. After a minute or two my husband just asked her. Are you trying to say that the drapes don't match the carpet? She was so embarrassed. 😂
Yup...a common way to win an argument... Put words in your mouth and then demand you justify them... Meanwhile your original topic is left high and dry...
