Would you rather have someone tell you what they want as a gift or surprise them?

If i know the person well I will usually surprise them but if not ill ask or just give money 🤷‍♀️

If I have seen them express what they like I try to make it a surprise.
deadgerbil · 26-30, M
Tell me what they want or I'll just give them money. Not interested in getting something that isn't really wanted and that will just sit around
@deadgerbil that's what I end up doing. Giving money. Tell them buy what they want. Some people I'll dig deep. Pay attention to their interests. Get something I'm sure they'll enjoy
I love to surprise them with something unexpected, but that I know they will like.
@Ghostinthemachine they are lucky

Always surprise them. I do my homework first.
@Livingwell lucky people

I've had quite a few long years of difficulty financially, so it's hampered a part of me that loves to give gifts. I feel insincere giving something unless I feel relatively sure it will be liked. When I am relatively well-off, I give a number of varying gifts because I can take the risk of some being liked, some not so much. When I can't afford to do that, I prefer to be told.

TELL me but you're SOL if it's over $30.

Depends on the person.

I like surprising people. I'm a pretty good gift giver, I've been told. I pay attention and make a mental note when my loved ones talk about their passions or the things they like.
It depends on how well I know them, but I'd want to make sure it's something they need or enjoy. It would be a waste of money and climate to buy something they'll throw away the minute I leave.
I'd rather they were surprised that they got something they want because I was paying attention and know what they want without asking.

If I know them well, I can usually get them something I know they’ll like or want. I like them to tell me what they want or need, though. 😄

I like to know what they want. I usually ask.

Information goes Long way
I rather they let me know, to be certain of getting them something I know they’ll like (assuming I can afford it).
I generally keep an eye on my niece's latest passion and accordingly get what she loves to open and use.
If I can actually think of a decent surprise, then that's best.

I like to surprise them by getting them something I know they will like. Giving gifts is my favourite thing to do.

I wish someone would put effort into buying a gift for me, I actually wish someone would just buy me a gift cause that doesn’t happen either.
