Lonesome Dove

So I kept seeing this book on Ticktock. People kept saying how good it is. It’s a western and I really didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did. It was so good, that now it will be hard to start another.

Have you read it? Tell me your thoughts on it.
If not what are you reading?

Yes, and I enjoyed it. McMurtry is one of my favorite authors, starting with "The Last Picture Show," also a great movie.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
The book and the mini-series both, are outstanding.

@LadyBronte about to start the mini series. Loved the book. Thank you ☺

I love that book and highly recommend the movie!
LavidaRaq · F
@GnomeyGee it was soo good. I’ll look for the movie.
I remember that tv show
LavidaRaq · F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I heard there is a series. I’ll look for it now that I’ve finished the book.
Wow. Even winner of the Pulitzer prize! I've never read it but now you've got me wanting to read it. I'm going to have to now. Hahaha it must really be good. Is there a movie of it? I looked it up and I see Lonesome Dove is a highly acclaimed 1989 American epic Western television miniseries starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones, often referred to as a movie. Based on Larry McMurtry’s novel, it follows two former Texas Rangers on a dangerous cattle drive from Texas to Montana.

@LadyGrace you should read it. It’s a big book but by the time you meet all the characters in it you feel like they’re all friends. I didn’t want it to end. There is a mini series and I watched the first one last night. It was good.
@LavidaRaq I'll see about it. Thank you.

Nope, but I will now.
GoFish ·
my hub watched the western movies or series by that name i presume it's based on the book? idk
LavidaRaq · F
@GoFish I would think so.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
I've read it twice. There are prequels and sequels.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@LavidaRaq I read them as they were published. The first one was a sequel and I was disappointed. Larry McMurtry had open heart surgery and was recovering on a lady friend's couch and he admitted later he was in a bad mood. At least one is a prequel when they are young Texas Rangers and it's very good. They are all worth reading. Larry McMurtry is my favorite writer and has been ever since I read The Last Picture Show in 1972.
LavidaRaq · F
@hunkalove I am waiting for them actually. Should be here any day now. Will check out the last picture show as well. Thank you ☺
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@LavidaRaq There are also several sequels to The Last Picture Show.
Musicman · 61-69, M
I have seen the movie, but never read the book. Here is what I am currently reading.

LavidaRaq · F
@Musicman oh wow, I thought this book was big lol
Musicman · 61-69, M
@LavidaRaq My absolute favorite is the Ashes series by William W Johnstone. There is 32 books in the series and I have read them all a few times. My favorite books in the series five to ten times. 🙂🙂🙂
LavidaRaq · F
@Musicman I will look those up as well, thank you.
