As a math assignment I gave my oldest a $60 budget and told her to come up with a weeks worth of meals for a family of 6

(I excluded myself from this because my dietary needs are way different and I didn’t want to overwhelm her)

I told her we will go shopping tomorrow and she’s been working on that most of the day but won’t tell me what she’s come up with yet she said it’ll be a surprise.. good news is she is taking inventory of things we already have so that’ll help her in her budget. I’m excited to see what she comes up with and how she does with this assignment

Before you say this is dumb or harsh assignment just think about it.. this teaches money management, problem solving and wants vs needs

@MommaBear 60 usd is about 80 cad. but food prices are going up no matter what side of the border one is on....i do find myself price checking more than ever now. for instance. i was at one grocery store and the cat litter was on sale for 7 usd...the one across the street for the same litter was 11 usd... i should train my cat to use the toilet 🤣

@PatientlyWaiting25 we do a combination on online schooling/homeschooling they do testing through the program we use and it’s at their own pace which is great

@Khenpal1 she’s 11 she’s not too young we’ve been working on budgeting assignments for awhile and she does excellent she’s actually ahead of others her age in math in general too

@MommaBear that 1 thing , the other is understanding what's inside and what are you paying for. Let her figure out 3 meals , plus the brain food from time to time.
