If you were training somebody new at a job how patient would you try to be with mistakes or the learning curve

I did a lot of the training at the restaurant where I worked for many years. I was getting paid by the hour so I was easy to get along with.

My stepmother overheard me on a phone call with one of my staff who was just not getting what said. Afterward my stepmother a high-school teacher said she couldnt believe how cool i stayed.

I don't mind having to take extra time to get someone to understand - but mine depends largely on if the same mistakes are made repeatedly. That tells me they're just not getting it.
