Whats the hardest or saddest part of a funeral?

Poll - Total Votes: 6
Thats the last time you're gonna see the person
The awkwardness of there's nothing you can really say
All the crying/hugging/reflecting
the final closing of the casket
Getting the urn if they went with creamation
That slow drop of the casket
That silence after the burying

I think it depends on who has died.

If the spouse or relative of a friend dies, your second choice might be the hardest part. But if a member of my family dies, that isn't an issue, since we are all grieving together. In that case, it is knowing that the person is gone which is the saddest part.

I have been to so many funerals/memorial services that I can handle most of the things on your list. The worst part for me is when a family member wants to make a statement, share a memory, etc. and becomes so overcome by emotion that they cannot continue.
People escorting me out after I try to take the departed's jewelry under the pretext of hugging them.

I think the really hard thing is that their richness of being is gone. No matter how detailed an obit, it can never capture the reality.
Other people's grief.
