What do you think dreams are as you're sleeping?

Poll - Total Votes: 8
Something your brain does to repair itself
Bits and pieces of a "second" life
Your mind trying to show you your inner thoughts
Kind of like just a mini movie in between sleeping
Your body trying to tell what you should do or how messed up you are
Hallucinations that's it

Try number 2 .....

The brain never shuts off.

We have all had those prolific and vivid dreams that seemed to be telling us something.
Answering a question we had been pondering ect...
Almost seems like divine intervention at times. Or is that just me?
I am bipolar and some medications I have taken in the past actually cause vivid dreams.
So when I make things sound like a fact I'm just drawing from those experiences.

So when your awake, your brain is mostly focused on the tasks at hand.

Fun fact: My un-medicated bipolar brain doesn't do that. It's literally like having two people in my head all the time. One works in the background....... Useless info I am sure. :-)

So has everyone had the pee dream?
The one where your panicking because you have to go so bad and all the bathrooms are out of order or something to that effect?
I guess that is what keeps you from peeing the bed all the time. LOL
Well that could also be the case where we have a question answered or speak with loved ones that have passed.
I am pretty sure it's just your brain doing what it does only with out up to date in put.

This is a good question.
People like to put a lot of weight into the meaning of their dreams without putting as much thought into just what dreams could actually be.
I am not one of those. LOL
I tend to over think everything into the tiniest details. Except my damned comments on here. LOL

So lets look at what possible purpose, if any, dreams may hold.
Oh and I hope you were actually looking for an answer and not just screwing around. LOL
and I am bipolar and it has it's distinct characteristics that I am drawing from with this.

So the brain never shuts off.
It's just entertaining itself.
The end.

@Dainbramadge So many people have different opinions about it and just curious about the possible ones here

@royalblue1193 Dude. I seriously have a lot of time with this subject.
I must have a 2 1/2 hour long power point presentation on it.
I relate everything back to the pee dream. Something everyone can relate to.
Dang but just as I started to get into it, my brain decided it was to much to try and cover and shut it down. LOL
I will try again tho.
It's safer than my 2 1/2 hour power point on religion.
Oh god I won't make that mistake again. LOL
Most of the time I think it’s the third one, inner thoughts. Then it’s the first one but occasionally it’s your subconscious trying to tell you something.

I think it's real thoughts mingling with imagination, the conscious mind intermingleing with the subconscious mind in the realm of "that which can not be seen or heard."

It's how your mind consolidates and stores memories for long-term recall.

For example: Alcohol and certain other drugs disrupt sleep phase architecture by damping down REM/dreaming. This is why you are less likely to remember the events of the previous evening.

They can be one of four things suppressed subconscious thoughts your mind trying to warn you or tell you something is needing to be taken care of or coming your way it can be a warning sign as well from your inner subconscious self and it can also be people that have passed on trying to communicate that is a big way they do it is through dreams

It seems it could be the brain healing or trying to.
