My elderly dad had a thing he liked to do to make him laugh at himself - in waiting rooms where little kids were he'd start up a conversation with one of them and when the time was right he'd ask this of the little boy or girl "I'm really old aren't I?" and he'd usually get this honest, guileless response - "You sure are!".
