If you work hard and succeed, you should not feel guilty about it. You have earned it. But, remember, with success comes responsibility.

Share the knowledge and help others to succeed as well.

The "Impostor syndrome", also known as impostor phenomenon or impostorism, is a psychological occurrence in which people doubt their skills, talents, or accomplishments and have a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as frauds. Despite external evidence of their competence, those experiencing this phenomenon do not believe they deserve their success or luck. 😐

I think because when we were all young and expressed any sort of ambition, the world would tell us "why don't you do this or that instead?" or how we would never make it because we were not smart enough, didn't have experience, things evolved too fast so anything we learned would be obsolete by tomorrow, etc. Maybe we didn't know what to say to counter those doubts others had about us.

That was my experience. I am not successful today but I learned to play "ignorant" when people ask advice. I figure if the world doubted me when I was younger and begging for a chance, why should I pretend to know anything when someone needs my advice?

@Slade
I had a little bit of that. I always knew there was 100 guys who'd take my job in a second if I wasn't there. Sometimes I'd think "why are they still calling me?"
If you are one of those who even bothers to show up to your job, you are doing better than many. Maybe the more qualified ones had other problems that you didn't. A lot of jobs are doing good just to get people to show up.
@helenS You love science. It searches for known things and tries to make answer from.... There's nothing wrong, it just becomes we all feel, in almost no way no answer is right in art, when we live in a world labelling so many?

@CestManan I was good at what I did and never created problems. But I would notice other guys who mastered it.

Eventually it sunk in that if I made the others job easier, they'd always call me

Where I teach, there is a mentoring program, so that experienced people can pair off with new hires.

What do you consider success? Money? I don't think wealth brings success. They have to worry about someone taking it away from them every moment of every day.

@hunkalove this

@hunkalove why so negative ?? its not a good luck. I was not talking about merely money, but, overall happiness in life. And money means nothing if you dont have character.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@hunkalove It is true that if you have nothing, you have nothing to lose.

@Alababy Thing is that the more money someone has, the more options they have in life.
Character? Well if someone has good looks and/or enough money, the world tends to forgive their other faults.

It is easy to think, "I do not have money but I am successful in other ways" until the real world speaks up.

I agree, give away your knowledge to those who are willing to receive it. I’ve known people who seemed successful on the outside but they were hoarding all the responsibility at work, not allowing others to shine and eventually they couldn’t take anymore and left the place disabled because nobody knew how to do a lot of the work.

But yeah, if you’re contributing in a way that makes something better and you are compensated for it you should feel great about it. Others will be jealous no matter what, those that don’t turn that jealousy into action to better themselves don’t matter because they will only try and bring you down instead of raise themselves up.
If you work hard for what you have, you should never be ashamed of your success.

It’s not “just” money. Excellent credit does wonders too to make your life easier.

Never be late with your payments. If possible, pay cash. Never get overextended.
Never apply for a store credit card to save ANY amount on your purchase. It shouldn’t even be legal to make such offers.

But if success is measured primarily by financial reward (as it almost inevitably is in the western world), then it cannot be shared as personal distinction is marked by accumulation of finite resources relative to everyone else.

I felt like maybe I was a fraud or my job was fraud at a highly paid job. But that job was not for me. That job does injustice to all by paying them much. I thought that I didn't do enough of the work to earn it and neither did anyone.
