So Elon Musk will lead the new Department of Efficiency

Isn't that marvellous😯

Elon Musk and former republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency.

Mr Musk and Mr Ramaswamy "will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies," the US President-elect said in a statement.

Mr Trump said their work would conclude by 4 July 2026, adding that a smaller and more efficient government would be a "gift" to the country on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The appointments reward two of Mr Trump's biggest supporters from the private sector.

Wow! A man whose businesses receive $2 to 3 billion per year in government contracts will be in charge of allocating government spending!! What could go wrong???

SpaceX alone got a whopping $2.8 billion in government contracts last year, according to The Information, and has gotten a total of $15.3 billion from the government since 2003.Apr 15, 2023

Also,
Musk owns an estimated 42% of SpaceX. He also controls voting rights for 78.3% of the shares.

Sounds like the austerity we suffered in UK under Cameron et Al. That's still costing us dear with services on their knees in most areas of the country unable to cope with demand now.
@KatyO83 Leaving the EU also cost...
In other words, they're going to cut regulations that get in their way for the private sector and then get the hell out of there so they have no responsibility nor blow back on them.

Just to be clear, the government has a ton of stupid redundancy which makes things less efficient...

But an additional Department is just going to add to that... and not actually going to fix that problem especially when putting two outside businessmen that don't know how the internal side works. And they're going to be there less than two years.

So they're just going to go knock out what's they want out to help their private business and then leave...

Musk's "restructuring" of Twitter put in the company in the deep red, and it has no way of climbing out. If he follows the same path, he's welcome to do what he's been doing for Twitter: selling Tesla stock to shore it up.

Ramaswamy is a swindler.

But good luck/

This is all part of the plan to erase controls over corporate greed and corruption, plus getting rid of anyone who opposes or has prosecuted Trump.

I do think the U.S. government (actually all governments) is bloated and that has always needed some work, but not with the aim of destroying safeguards.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Ontheroad what safeguards? 🤔
Ontheroad · M
@wildbill83 safeguards provided by, for example, the EPA and Department of Education, to name just a couple.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
@Ontheroad DoE has done nothing but cost money and try to force woke bullshit on education; EPA is too bloated, over regulates small & struggling businesses, but completely ignores major companies (especially ones with government contracts & subsidies)

Looking forward to it 👍

Bad government is always a result of too much government
Adding a whole department is the least efficient thing possible
@SomeMichGuy exactly
@pripyatamusementpark only everything 😆

Best thing ever.

the missing word in all of these conversations (and I agree with you bad idea) but the word is

austerity i think once that word is inserted into the plans the base idea starts to be less clouted.

i think a lot of the blame is for our media outlets not using the one word that captures the Trump parties broad plan moving forward. although to be fair i am not sure most Americans understand austerity as a economic policy or know squat about economics but we saw how austerity played out in other countries recently with Greece being a good place to look

No wonder he wants the senate to adjourn - so we cannot see the blatant obvious conflict of interest here.
SnipingSvelte · 26-30, F
@SnipingSvelte that part made me think it was satire at first. 😅 But apparently it isn't. 😬

Apparently this has no real authority. It has to go through congress, the suggested waste, and although it's republican controlled, they still have to pass it through, to get rid of the waste.
SW-User
Oh sheesh, he's gonna be thrown away. Trump no longer needs him. That's how expedient and effiencent Trump is. Musk also never needed him, all Musks stocks went up after Trumps win and he's moved without having any income and taken out another loan.

The rest is just a charade.

@AbsolutelyFabulous He can kick him out just as quick. This was always a business "transaction"

Not biased at all. 🙄
Adrift · 61-69, F
Could that mean you guys in maintenance can get the screws you needed without having going through congress?

Government efficiency is an oxymoron
Bang5luts · M
Just like he started to defund the mail and social security.
Confined · 56-60, M
@Bang5luts Uh Hu. Another lie by a democrat. Show your proof. Links to CNN is not proof.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
@Bang5luts Probably. Gonna give the money to his rich friends and the rest of us can go kick rocks.

Guess disability payments were nice while they lasted.
Bang5luts · M
Why else would he defund these programs that were made to benefit the citizensof this country @thepreposterouspanda? What he should do is cut government regulations and secund or politicians. Starting with the Whitehouse
