There's no doubt for me that he's a smart guy, especially in his futuristic outlook for human civilization, but his lack of social skills and Asperger's tend to outshine a lot of his genius.
He suffers from a lot of the things people who are driven tend to suffer from, which is an instinctive dismissal and disregard for people and their lives. One reason why he finds himself in so much controversy is that he'll just say dumb things that invalidate so many different kinds of people.

I honestly don't care what he has done or not done since I doubt that he got where he is without massive help from government sources. I did happen to agree with a statement he made on Joe Rogan where he said the greatest issue facing mankind in population collapse. With the very low birth rate and things increasing death and infertility like the covid vax humanity is in for a world of hurt very soon.

I think he was way solid early on. Zip2, X.com, PayPal. Solid exits.
Tesla 鈥榬ight. But he seemed to delaminate at some point. The SEC lawsuit. The Tham Luang defamation case.
It鈥檚 been interesting watch his stock ride up and down according to whether the media gives him darts or laurels. He doesn鈥檛 give a fuck about anyone but himself from what I can tell. Tanking his shareholder鈥檚 stock by acting out. Smoke a spliff on Joe Rogan, that鈥檚 what I want as a shareholder.
He lost me with Neuralink. Not from some of the clinical goals, but there鈥檚 some transhumanist freakshow shit there.
Mostly I can鈥檛 stand him because he seems to drive a fear based dev culture.

I respect him. Had him on a pedestal, before watching him smoke weed just "because it was cool" and after a failed attempt to buy twitter, tried to screw them over.
Still respect him for his ideals and that he's a person of action. Noone is perfect, but still gotto give it to him for taking initiative in solving humanities problems.

I think people expect too much of the guy. He's a billionaire, which I don't hold against him, even though other people seem to. As others have pointed out, I'm pretty sure he has Asperger's or something.
Looking at some of his tweets, he's got a weird sense of humor that I don't share. He thought it was okay to upload a picture of Bill Gates with the caption, "In case anyone wanted to lose a boner." Stuff like that leads me to believe he has trouble differentiating between light teasing and outright bullying, which is why he got so upset when Twitter censored him.
He also seems to have a pretty bad temper when crossed, and this has led to at least one terrible decision (i.e., the attempted purchase of Twitter).
Now that I've got all of that out of the way, I actually still like the guy. Not for his personality, but for what he's trying to do for the world.

@LordShadowfire he thinks Bill Gates to be a fraud for betting half a billion against his tesla company. Calling him out on his philantopic movements, when he is betting against a company that works to a achieve a cleaner world.
