Strange bedfellows..,

Some people will make Faustian deals to win....

US President Donald Trump said he has struck a deal to obtain diesel from Russia, in a stunning reversal of years of American pressure on Moscow over its war with Ukraine and an attempt to address high fuel prices before the US midterm elections
Top | New | Old
... and Russia's major oil export terminal is now up in flames. Overnight reports say:
Drones attacked the Yug Rusi oil terminal in Rostov-on-Don overnight into Oct. 10, causing a large fire at the site, according to the Russian outlet Astra.

And here's a list of 18 Russian oil refineries and petroleum infrastructure hit by Ukraine over the past few months:

Conclusion: tRump's diesel "deal" was all for show anyway. With all the refineries hit, Russia has fuel shortages anyway. They just don't have the spare fuel to lower world prices. Bombing the Rostov terminal is just an exclamation point!

@ElwoodBlues diesel Russia is offering is from refineries outside Russia.
@Khenpal1 In other words, tRump's Russian diesel deal doesn't increase world supply, it just re-labels it?? In any case, I'm looking for confirmation of the "outside Russia" claim and haven't found it yet.

Google's AI says this:
Key Details of the Diesel Agreement
• Initial Volumes: Russia will immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by 500,000 tons in November, and 1 million tons immediately thereafter.
• Future Deliveries: An additional 3 million tons are scheduled for delivery depending on the condition of Russian refineries.
• Sanctions Waiver: The U.S. Treasury Department issued a temporary general license authorizing transactions for Russian diesel through April 2027.

That "depending on the condition of Russian refineries" clause may make the whole deal moot -- an announcement without substance.

LUKOIL: Holds multiple upstream assets in West and North Africa, including stakes in the Marine XII concession in Congo, as well as deepwater projects in Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon, and Nigeria.Rosneft: Owns a lucrative 30% stake in the massive Zohr gas field offshore Egypt and has explored joint midstream opportunities with local operators like Oranto Petroleum.• Bulgaria: Lukoil Neftohim Burgas (the largest refinery in the Balkans, located in Burgas).
• Romania: Petrotel-Lukoil refinery (located in Ploiești).
• Netherlands: A 45% interest in the Zeeland refinery (owned jointly with TotalEnergies).• Germany: Stakes in three major German refineries via Rosneft Deutschland GmbH:
• PCK Raffinerie (Schwedt)
• MiRO / Miro (Karlsruhe)
• Bayernoil (Vohburg/Neustadt)

I was informed that they redirect some of the diesel production from Africa to USA.

Desperation because the midterms are coming fast now. Hopefully this backfires. Sadly I think a lot of Americans have checked out of the Ukraine war. Wonder what happens if the EU decides to sanction us for dealing with Russia...

@val70 and that perhaps is the saddest part of all... It's predictability

The first tranche (and the only oil that will be released before the elections) amounts to less than a day's consumption for diesel by US drivers, so is unlikely to have any impact on consumer prices. What a stupid issue to shred any remaining credibility over.

@SunshineGirl he had remaining credibility?
Khenpal1 · M
@SunshineGirl its a tasting move to remove other sanctions and how world will react . At the moment he is bypassing both congress and senate in USA.
