Trump is a far right facist lunatic but I'm hopeful the Democrats will win midterms and if enough progressive left wing Democrats like Bernie Sandars and AOC win then maybe things will get better because being hopeful puts my mind at ease because this administration has scared the hell out of me so I'm excited for midterms and hoping the Democrats win the majority! 😌😌😌
MommyLucy · 36-40, F
The worst thing about Trump is he is not even the worst member of this Maga Republican administration and that is scary! 😭😭😭 Steven Miller for example is one of the most vile horrible cruel politicians (and he is much worse than Trump) in the world so we need Democrats to win the midterms and get these far right facist lunatics out of the white house because our democracy is at stake! 😔😔😔 I am hoping AOC becomes president in 2028 and then gives us Universal Healthcare in the form of Medicare For All! 😇😇😇
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@syd03 I cant argue with much of that. Just to say that Private health charges are overseen and regulated by the government each year. Granted the gaps are widening. But thats the nature of money in the world right now, with America leading the charge with global funds. As a user of both systems I can state the advantages of both. The cost of one, V the convenience of the other.
Shifting to the RBA. Again, its role is limited to maintaining inflation between 2% and 3%, and it has only interest rates to do it with. With fortunately a high degree of independence. The unsavoury fact is that the whole world has overspent and its time to pay the bill, one way or another.. The good news is that while thise surgery may hurt, the world will come out the other side without the cancer of America and slowly recover. But I wont pretend it isnt going to hurt. And those currently looking to enter the housing market will be hit really hard..😷
syd03 · 41-45, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Haha yes, and what good is the gov doing to regulate that, not so much. Yes money and inflation are rampart of course due to external factors. However the GP in medical is larger the lack of gov funding of medicare to rise inline with the actual fees being charged by providers, and the lack of regulation of that the providers charge too. when the system was created the medicare schedule rate was equal to the provider charge, the gap is widening and at a dramatically increasing rate also. There are graphs out there showing that in worrying clarity. Yes each system has it benefits. I think a lot is coming dow to the gov not regulating the private funds better and also the AMA not keeping the costs down from providers - these doctors are charging many times above the schedule rate and are not in anyway struggling to make ends meet. They are affluent to the highest degree. Then you have the GPs, doing the grunt work on the ground, they are often humble and not living lavish lifestyles.

But internally, separately form he impacts of the global economy, the disparity of wealth in this nation and the spending habits of those with the money, who have paid off debt, debt free -those who are unaffected to as great a degree by the rate rises as those who don't have such accumulated wealth and are in debt currently. Those who want to enter the housing market will struggle to even get int currently. Those who recently entered and stretched may find they get squeezed back out with hundreds of thousands of dollars lost due to interest rate pressures and a home worth much less than what they paid for it. I feel bad for those younger people that make such big losses when thy just trying to get ahead. But then again if they stretch to far, need to live withing your means. I was fortunate I bought when I was 23. Was offered a loan twice what I actually took out, bought a modest and old apartment. Lived ten years then moved into a stand alone house after that was paid off. I was caution in my moves. In hind sight Borrowing the higher and buying a house first would have been a quicker path and yielded a higher return, but it was a risk if the market did what it is currently doing.

I thought that something like what you say may have occurred after the 2008 GFC and the housing loan crash there
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@syd03 Another 2008 style crash may be on the way. Certainly all the ingredients are present. But there a couple of wild cards.First, the external pressures you mentioned. We dont know exactly how our government will react. At a personal level I would love to see a Canada like response. But it doesnt look like thats happening. And I see good reasons why it shouldnt. The distances to Europe and our defence needs to start the ball rolling. But the way to bring housing prices down comes from two directions. 1: Slow the growth of investment properties. (Particularly the foreign owned ones which are so often just left idle to park the wealth and grow in capital value)2: For the govt to radically increase the supply of public housing through building medium density estates and rent them cheaply, as a govt project. Giving prospective buyers more money just drives the prices up further.
Finally, a point I often made in the past is that governments dont create an economy. They ride the one that is happening as best they can. So telling health funds to lower premiums is only going to create a financial disaster for them as they run deficits over time and cut benefits further or just disband the funds. (Unintended consequences) America is facing a lot of that right now..😷

Trump can ban the press from the WH until the cows come home - but it won't do him a bit of good come mid terms. Every time a voter pays too much for gas and too much for food they know who to blame and they will remember it come voting day. Cheers and happy weekend!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@Nanoose Yup, your way is soooo much better, right?

@sunsporter1649 Ah well, at least you are not denieing the level of incopetence here. You are just nihilistic about it.
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
That’s why I still like the BBC.
Yes, it’s not perfect (far from it), and an institution funded by essentially a tax (licence fee), but it still seems to be as unbiased as it’s possible to be in today’s manipulative world.
From a relatively impartial standpoint, it appears to me that by banning large sections of the media, and preventing unfavourable reporting, you’ve essentially got a dictator with state control of things. That doesn’t seem like democracy to me…🤷

@sunsporter1649 Got any proof there Sport?

Of course you don't.

I really want to hear the liberal answer to this. How do Liberals plan on stopping Fascism? What suggestions do they have for making sure America never ends up in this position again? All I hear from Liberals is that Fascism and Socialism are both bad. Well, Liberalism completely failed to stop the Fascists, and I'm not hearing any suggestions outside of voting harder.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@BohoBabe So you are starting by removing Democracy, by disenfranchising one group.. Dont get me wrong, I agree entirely with your scenario. But you just overwrote the Constitution and Bill of Rights..And the group you took the vote from have guns.. I foresee a problem..😷
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
@BohoBabe
The threat of Fascism will always exist, just like the threat of poverty and disease will always exist. I don't believe any society is perfect. But if these policies are implemented, it would be infinitely harder for Fascists to come to power.

American politicians admired facism before WWII and were big fans of Mussolini. People like facism.
BohoBabe · M
@Diotrephes Sure, but look what happened. FDR implemented radical pro-worker change, and all of those politicians that wanted an alliance with Mussolini, they lost power. FDR ended up getting reelected so many times that they needed to create the rule that a president can only serve two terms.

Most voters are dumb animals. It's not that they like Fascism. It's that they'll vote for any radical change when things are bad. That's why every American under the age of 30 is either a Socialist or a Fascist. If we want America to remain a free country, we need Democrats who are going to do what FDR did. Look at how popular Mamdani is in New York now. Any goals of the Fascists in New York have been dashed because Mamdani is delivering on his left-wing agenda.

Like to quote Churchill here: ""Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning". Vote him down!

More like the end of the beginning. It doesnt really matter.. Unless you happen to be American.
But you can still get reasonably unbiased news reporting from www.abc.net.au. And brutally unbiased reporting from www.sbs.com.au>news . Dont blame me if you dont like what you hear..😷
…he’s just proving how deathly afraid of real reporting about him he is…
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@KunsanVeteran And there will be no one to report when the coup starts..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman …hasn’t it already started???
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@KunsanVeteran Certainly the field work has been done. But the official launch, where no one can ignore it any more has yet happen.. We can guess that it might start with a rejection of the mid term results. Or maybe some other watershed event. But a 24 hour lead time to remove a few troublesome people will make all the difference.😷
