In fact Australia is profiting in many areas from Trumps tariffs. All our wine now sits on Canadian shelves where American products once sat. Our clean produce goes to nations that will no longer accept GM produce and hormone and antibiotic levels in American products. No. We are not going to give Google and facebook a free pass to do as they wish.. And No. We are not going to treble the price of pharmaceuticals to keep American rip off makers happy..😷

New Zealand has stopped sending parcels to US that attract tariffs until a solution is found.

@sunsporter1649 Thanks for answering what I didn't ask. Try again:
Tell us then, sunstroke, exactly what tariffs does NZ impose??

So now the Washington bureaucracy will need to be greatly expanded in order to monitor and adjust and fine-tune those lists (and of course they'll need to predict what will and wont be needed for years ahead). That's the system the Soviets used - and there were shortages of everything over and over and over 😂
Besides, DOGE will soon come along and shut down the Bureau of Central Tariff Planning or whatever it will be called, and then trump will install one of his Epstein cronies as the director.

The big problem for the US is that the rest of the world simply can't be bothered dealing with yet another autocracy that more and more resembles the russian shambles - we're busy forming new trade treaties and alliances. The US is becoming irrelevant - isolated and ignored. The rest of us have more important things to think about.

So buy American and avoid the tariffs
butterflybaby75 · 46-50, F
@sunsporter1649 All well and good to say that but materials imported to the USA to make goods in the USA are also subject to Trump's tariffs, and this is how it hurts US consumers.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@sunsporter1649 If america doesn't produce those goods (Wisconsin being such a famous coffee producer) then you'll need to do without. Perhaps you could manufacture your own in the States... make smartphones in the US. Of course, you'll first need to produce all the components in the States, and then you'll need to assemble the phones in the States, and you'll need to pay minimum wage (at least) to all the workers - those workers who aren't in the fields working for at least minimum wage to replace the cheap and focused labour force you deported - you'll be astonished by how much you can end up paying for potatoes (ask present-day russians)
Enjoy your $3,500 smartphone due in 3 to 4 years (no choice of model or colour, of course, because they're in short supply).

@NativePortlander1970 Remember that profits are derived by fees/charges associate with flows of money - the more money flows that occur the more fees/charges the tech bros, banks, etc. get to make in profits. So higher domestic costs due to tariffs make the US elite richer. Who is 'chief' of the US elite? Why of course it's Mr Trump himself.
@butterflybaby75 Or it could be the corporatists punishing consumers for voting shrump back in, ever think of that?
@butterflybaby75 We used to have a law that prevented this sort of gouging, Saint Ronny Raygun did an executive order that repealed that law.
