This is all a performance. The reality is public schools get their funding from local property taxes, not the federal government. Teacher salaries are determined and set by local school boards. The federal Department of Education provides standards (a good thing), subsidies for "special" education programs (a noble and necessary thing), and higher education grants that has (in the past) made the USA university education and research the envy of the world.
Luckily, he won't get very far in his quest to sink the USA to the bottom.

@MarkPaul Just 13.7% of all education funding comes from federal funds. It is not the sum involved, but what it is spent on (trying to give disadvantaged students an equal chance) that Trump objects to.

@SunshineGirl That's exactly it. He believes with all his corroded heart that by "stealing" money to those who he considers "not normal," he will be able to get away with it under the premise people are just like him and really only care about their own self-absorbed lives.
