I'm pretty sure there's enough robust checks and balances in place to prevent a US dictatorship. That's why he's so blasé about proclaiming it. He knows it can never happen.

@Richard65 Project 2025 lays out exactly how and who to replace with loyalists in the government and military to allow a smooth and easy coup. We are a land of laws, but the Supreme Court of the land has just told us a president is not legally accountable for literally any action taken while in office and it not inconceivable that they’d side with an extreme conservative coup as well, putting the law on the side of the dictatorship. Trump has said many times in many venues he’d like to eliminate the inconvenient portions of the constitution, and everything is in place to allow him to.
Our democracy is far more fragile than you think.

@Richard65 I wouldn’t take that chance on a man who has, at every opportunity, told us all he’ll happily ignore the laws, side with the nation’s adversaries, take away the rights of the people, and most recently “fix it so you never have to vote again”.

but if Trump becomes a bona fide dictator, then the USA has the weakest, most pitiful Constitution in the history of the world. I have more faith in it than that.
Maybe you should read up on what the Trump-packed Supreme Court has been up to lately..?2022 Dobbs decision
2024 Trump v Anderson (insurrectionist on the ballot)
2024 Trumps United States (Presidential Immunity Decision)
You and I might care about what the Constitution says, but there are six Supreme Court Justices who don’t

@AbbySvenz that's a long way from seizing the throne and declaring yourself supreme leader. I'm not saying he doesn't want to do that, but I think it'll be difficult to achieve it. If it was a viable option, he likely wouldn't declare it so loudly. It's theatre for his base. He never did lock Hillary up.

@Richard65 Richard, buddy, I hate to tell you this, but the Heritage Foundation has been slowly making their move for years. They now have a majority in the Supreme Court, as well as numerous Trump appointed federal judges, all of whom would go along with a coup of the type outlined in Project 2025. Beginning with the fact that he intends to replace every unelected, unappointed federal official with a Heritage Foundation loyalist.

@LordShadowfire just out of interest, what do you think would happen if he became dictator and abolished elections?
